University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, is seeking applications for a Student Activities Officer (Student Life Coordinator) position. General funded position, to begin approximately July 2026, pending position clearance, availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and program needs.
The position is administered by the office of Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, at Kapi‘olani Community College. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) is charged with administrative control for planning and administering all programs and services within the Student Affairs units. The specific functions of this organizational unit include outreach and admissions, financial aid, graduation and transcript evaluations, credit and non-credit registration, student engagement, student counseling for specific and targeted populations, student grievances and complaints, and related learning support services.
**Facilitates the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Life (OSL) and the Kamokila Student Center
**In collaboration with the Integrated Student Services Coordinator, recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees to ensure effective performance
**In collaboration with Student Affairs programs, develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive student communication strategy across digital platforms, including web pages, social media, and a centralized student event calendar; to ensure timely, accurate, and coordinated dissemination of information that promotes student engagement, supports institutional priorities, and enhances the overall student experience.
**Coordinates the planning and implementation of on-campus New Student Orientation experiences, serving as the central point of coordination across Student Affairs and Academic Affairs; collaborates with campus partners to design and deliver engaging, in-person programming that fosters student connection, sense of belonging, and successful transition to campus life.
Schedules rooms to meet the needs of clubs, organizations, and other student engagement groups
**Coordinates OSL services such as student identification, employee identification, issuing parking permits, U-PASS distribution, and lost and found
Coordinates all aspects of researching, purchasing, and managing significant OSL equipment and software purchases that enhance student activities, programming, and services.
**Creates meaningful work experiences for student employees that are designed to assist student employees in taking the “next step” in their professional development.
**Recommends, manages, and executes programs and functions related to the Office of Student Life, serving as the main contact for vendors, departments, external contacts and agencies, and university departments.
Develops and implements comprehensive leadership development opportunities, including training, courses, and co-curricular programs, available to the student body.
Collaborates with stakeholders to create impactful programs that enhance students' leadership skills and foster personal growth.
Incorporates Kapi‘olani Community College’s vision, values, and mission into the OSL program.
**Serves, under the general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, as the central coordinating authority for all recognized Student Boards and other student governance bodies; provides comprehensive, campus-wide oversight to ensure alignment with institutional priorities, adherence to governing documents, and consistent advisory support; establishes operational standards, monitors performance, and intervenes as necessary to ensure effective, compliant, and accountable board operations.
**Under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, holds primary responsibility for the oversight of all student fee-funded Student Board budgets, directing the allocation, monitoring, and enforcement of financial resources to ensure equitable distribution and alignment with institutional priorities; ensures compliance with UH fiscal policies and audit standards, mitigates financial risk, and holds boards accountable for adherence to approved budgets and sound financial management practices.
Develops and implements an assessment cycle that measures Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Service Area Outcomes (SAOs), for OSL, the Board of Student Activities (BOSA), the Board of Student Publications (BOSP), Student Congress, and the Registered Independent Organizations (RIOs).
Collects and analyzes data to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of student engagement programs.
Develops and implements a plan for OSL and the other Student Boards to participate and meaningfully engage in Kapi‘olani Community College’s Strategic Plan.
Creates and submits the OSL Annual Report on Program Data in addition to any other reports required or requested.
Facilitates the development of student life activities programs, collaborating with student leaders and staff to plan and implement engaging events and projects.
Fosters collaboration and positive working relationships with various groups, including RIOs, CSOs, and the OSL.
Develops policies and procedures for advisors and members of RIOs, ensuring compliance and fostering a positive organizational environment.
Administers student activities, student organizations, and leadership education programs in alignment with the college's mission, values, and strategic plan.
Serves in a leadership role on Kapi‘olani Community College’s Commencement Committee, contributing to the planning, coordination, and execution of commencement activities; collaborates with campus partners to guide logistics, support student participation, and ensure a high-quality, well-coordinated experience for graduates and their guests.
Creates opportunities for staff and faculty to actively participate in student life, including CSOs and RIOs, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
Serves as a resource of support and professional development for RIO advisors, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
**Works a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed; travel may be required to fulfill job duties.
Other duties as assigned
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Social Work, Human Resources, Marketing, Communications, Arts & Sciences, or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student program and leadership coordination, student/campus engagement, program management,; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, knowledge, and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of student activities/affairs as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with student activities/affairs.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
