Community League of the Heights (CLOTH) is a non-profit, multi-faceted community-based organization that has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents in the Southern Washington Heights area for fifty years. This mission encompasses advocacy, organizing and providing services related to decent affordable housing, education, health, youth services and neighborhood improvement. CLOTH’s wide-ranging programs include affordable housing, educational programming for children and adults, economic development, social services, and food pantry programs

Job Description:

The SYEP Program Director will help CLOTH develop and oversee CLOTH’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), in coordination with the Community Health Academy of the Heights (CHAH), as part of the organization’s three-year grant funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). The School-Based SYEP grants strengthen the relationship between public schools and non-profits to carry out work-readiness programs in NYC’s most vulnerable communities. The Program Director will be responsible for leading the development and execution of the program, working with the CHAH principal, counseling and other school staff. Tasks will include staff hiring and management, coordination with community school staff, outreach to work site managers, student internship interviews and selections, follow-up with students and work sites, and reporting to DYCD. Meetings with DYCD and other government agencies will be required.

The position is full-time and will report to the Executive Director. Applicants must be available to begin work May 4th 2026.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will effectively demonstrate:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • Three (3) years of related experience, including experience supervising or managing summer youth employment programs.
  • A passion and commitment to promoting youth advancement and opportunity;
  • Be culturally competent and be able to lead in a way that is sensitive to both staff and participants’ cultural heritages and traditions, life experiences, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
  • An ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with governmental agencies, school staff, business partners and community groups, and service organizations;
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and provide timely and clear updates to supervisors;
  • Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through;
  • Ability to complete tasks and projects with tight deadlines;
  • An ability to be flexible and willingness to wear “multiple hats” if and when needed;
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work some weekends and evenings, if needed;
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint;

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Washington Heights and surrounding communities, or previous work experience with vulnerable communities;
  • Knowledge of best practices in youth education, work-readiness, youth employment programs, empowerment and advancement;
  • Strong fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with New York City government agencies, reporting requirements, preferably with DYCD.

Compensation:

The position is full-time, which will require some evening and weekend work.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
