Title: Part-time Veterinary Skills Technician (VST)

The Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) invites applications for a part-time position as an LIU CVM Veterinary Skills Technician (VST). This position will report to the Department Head of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and to the Director of Veterinary Skills. The primary duty of this position is to help coordinate the veterinary skills (VS) laboratories and other responsibilities assigned by the Director or Department Head. If applicable, the VST may act as a licensed veterinary surgical and anesthesia technician for surgical procedures that occur in our Trap-Neuter-Release program. The Veterinary Skills program consists of six courses (Semester I through VI of the DVM program). The VST may assist in other clinical courses and programs throughout the first three years of the curriculum including laboratories associated with the basic surgery course. The VST will work closely with LIU-CVM faculty and may assist in other programs such as the small animal wellness clinic and other outreach programs overseen by clinical faculty.
Additional duties may include:
• Set up laboratory materials and supplies before class
• Break down the laboratory when class is finished and clean and replace equipment and supplies into their proper storage areas
• Assist with live animal laboratories with duties as instructed by faculty
• Assist with end of the semester OSCE’s for student evaluation
• Assist with room set-up and instruction for student independent learning activities in the laboratory
• Assist with the development of teaching models
• Developing and maintaining the equipment and teaching materials for the laboratories
•I nventory and ordering supplies
Job Skills & Qualifications
• Must have CVT/LVT/RVT credentials with current license
• Work experience assisting with surgeries
• Work experience and familiarity with the veterinary medical profession
• Good people skills
• On-the-fly problem solver
• Experience with teaching students will strengthen the position application, but is not essential
• Knowledge of:
o Small animal techniques
o Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulations.
