This professional will be responsible for the stewardship of constructed park amenities and structures in The Parklands of Floyds Fork, which spans over 4,000+ acres. Reporting to the South Team Leader, this position will work with a team of employees and contractors to deliver park amenities that are safe, clean, fun, and beautiful for the nearly 4 million annual visits to The Parklands. The position will be the steward of restrooms, trailheads, playgrounds, spraygrounds, buildings, roadways, drainage systems, turfgrass maintenance and supporting infrastructure. Additionally, the position will assist part-time team members that ensure that the park’s restrooms and trash are kept to a world-class standard.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safe and smooth operations of our park amenities that serve visitor needs. This is primarily focused on maintaining the cleanest park in the region.
- Assist in the annual repair, inspection, and park service system that ensures all park systems are functioning as designed and maintained as specified.
- Use equipment to maintain park amenities including, but not limited to, power tools, mechanized equipment, tractors, and UTVs.
- Anticipate and make recommendations regarding needed improvements or measures necessary to deliver a world-class service level.
- Work with appropriate personnel in The Parklands’ design and project management team, including outside contractors, regarding capital maintenance and repair/replacement activities.
- Keep records and prepare work logs and maintenance activities.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Principles and objectives of park, building, irrigation, and landscape structure system maintenance standards and practices
- Park and building maintenance equipment use
- Requirements and problems associated with playgrounds and spraygrounds
- Knowledge and ability to work with staff, contractors and team members in ongoing patrol and maintenance activities
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, ordinances and statutes pertaining to maintenance including, but not limited to: chemical and pesticide application, labor rules and standards, OSHA requirements and standards, and the principles of building maintenance
- Safe motorized equipment operation and training programs for operators
Ability to:
- Complete basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and maintenance tasks
- Provide on-the-ground work in all weather conditions as needed for park maintenance activities
- Use of a variety of mechanized equipment, hand tools, and motorized machinery in maintenance activities
- Work irregular schedules and frequent weekends and holidays
- Effectively assist staff in working with volunteers, the public, and other partners of The Parklands
- Be an effective and positive representative of The Parklands to the public
- Effectively communicate with customers, contractors or the public using a telephone or in a face-to-face, one-on-one or group setting
- Comprehend and make inferences from written material
- Make decisions in the field necessary to ensure a safe work, visitor, and maintenance experience
- Wear The Parklands prescribed gear and uniform while on the job
Additional Requirements:
- Must posess or have the ability to obtain a KY Dept of Agriculture pesticide license within 90 day
- Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles and power equipment safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
- Individuals must pass a criminal background check
- Must be able to lift 100 pounds and move easily in an outdoor setting with regular work in conditions without environmental controls
- Performance of other essential and maintenance functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift
Benefits:
Full-time hourly position, $15-$18 per hour; Standard 40-hour work week with some overtime as approved or needed for work conditions; pay commensurate with experience and expertise.
