Position Title: Director of Academic & Experiential Learning

Reports To: Executive Director

Employment Type: Part-Time, Salaried, Non-Exempt

Location: Philadelphia, PA (Hybrid: In-Person & Remote)

Salary Range: $37,000.00 - $40,000.00 annually (Average of 24 hours per week)

The Southeast Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center (Southeast PA AHEC) is a 501(c)(3) committed to increasing health equity by strengthening the healthcare workforce in rural and underserved areas and expanding access to community-based health education. We serve Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties at the intersection of public health, education, and workforce development. Our initiatives include training health professionals, supporting underserved communities, and preparing the next generation of health leaders, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

Position Summary

The Director of Academic and Experiential Learning is a mission-driven education and workforce development professional responsible for advancing our organization’s academic enrichment initiatives. This role leads the design, delivery, and expansion of our Scholars Program, supports implementation and recruitment for CORE (Community Oriented Rural Education) Rotations, and cultivates strategic partnerships with universities, medical schools, and institutional stakeholders. The Director also plays a key role in broadening access to post-secondary and pre-professional opportunities for health professions students. This position includes strategic program leadership, direct student advising, event coordination, LMS support, and partnership building to strengthen academic and workforce pathways across Southeastern Pennsylvania. Key responsibilities for this role includes:

Program Leadership

  • Serve as the lead for the Scholars Program, managing recruitment, programming implementation, scheduling, evaluation, and student support
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual recruitment presentations for the Scholars Program at university and community events
  • Provide guidance and advisement to in students, including referrals and follow-up support
  • Design and implement immersive learning experiences that center health equity
  • Lead student recruitment for CORE+, working closely with academic institutions and training sites to onboard eligible participants
  • Support logistics and scheduling for CORE+ rotations, including clinical placements, community experiences, and shadowing
  • Maintain up-to-date tracking of Scholars and CORE+ participation and data including, evaluation forms, and follow-up with students and regional PA AHEC sites
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and program event/activities

Partnership & Institutional Engagement

  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with universities, medical schools, community colleges, and professional associations to support recruitment and workforce development
  • Represent the organization in external meetings, campus visits, and virtual engagements with institutional and community partners
  • Identify and promote opportunities for students to access enrichment activities such as research, internships, mentoring, and conferences

Program Expansion & Innovation

  • Work with the Executive Director to expand post-secondary programming
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement through student feedback, evaluation tools, and program data analysis
  • Support grant reporting, proposal writing, and marketing/outreach
  • Coordinate the delivery of test preparation services (e.g., MCAT, SAT, ACT) as needed

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, social work, public health, or a related field
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in program leadership, student support services, academic advising, or youth development
  • Demonstrated success in student recruitment, partner engagement, and public speaking
  • Experience with Salesforce and Academy of Mine (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Cultural humility in working with diverse student populations
