Job Summary
Hayes Elementary School Principal serves as the key liaison between the Superintendent and the building staff. In this leadership role, the individual will lead all school programs, services, staff, and students, ensuring alignment with the district's vision and goals. The Elementary School Principal is responsible for making informed, strategic decisions that foster a supportive, effective work environment for staff, address the needs of students, and ensure the delivery of a high-quality curriculum. This elementary school principal is focused on improving student outcomes through the application of best teaching practices, facilitating collaboration among staff, and maintaining a school culture that prioritizes student success and holistic development.

Essential Job Functions
Academic and Instructional Leadership
- Serves as the instructional leader, driving differentiated instruction and continuous improvement aligned with district vision, goals, and strategic priorities.
- Leads the use of student achievement data to inform instructional decisions, guide school improvement efforts, and ensure high levels of learning for all students.
- Fosters a culture of high expectations, academic excellence, and continuous growth for every student.
- Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school improvement plan to advance student outcomes.
- Engages staff in instructional observation, assessment, data analysis, and coaching to strengthen teaching practices and student engagement.
- Ensures the implementation of effective, research-based instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- Coordinates the involvement of staff, students, and families in the development and implementation of policies and practices that enhance student opportunities.
School Leadership and Operations
- Leads, directs, and is accountable for the overall daily operations of the elementary school.
- Maintains a safe, orderly, and caring learning environment by overseeing facilities, maintenance, custodial, food service, health services, transportation, safety, and technology systems.
- Manages operational functions including purchasing, staffing, scheduling, record-keeping, and required reporting to governmental agencies.
- Oversees the development and implementation of the school's master schedule to support effective instruction and efficient use of resources.
- Prepares and administers the school budget, including building and grounds, general fund, capital outlay, and personnel allocations.
- Collaborates with Community Education and other partners to support appropriate and effective use of school facilities.
- Ensures implementation of district policies and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Demonstrates and consistently communicates the district's mission, vision, core values, and strategic direction in all aspects of leadership.
Human Capital Leadership
- Recruits, hires, supervises, and evaluates certified and non-certified staff in alignment with district standards and negotiated agreements.
- Provides ongoing feedback, coaching, and professional growth opportunities to enhance staff performance and effectiveness.
- Assigns and manages staff responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective use of human resources.
- Builds and sustains a collaborative, high-performing staff culture focused on student success.
Culture, Climate, and Community Engagement
- Models professional, ethical, and respectful behavior that promotes a positive image of the school and inspires high performance.
- Creates and sustains an inclusive, respectful school culture where all students, staff, and families feel valued and supported.
- Responds effectively to inquiries and communications from students, staff, families, community members, and governmental agencies.
- Promotes a positive image of the school and district within the community and state.
- Encourages and facilitates meaningful family and community engagement through committees, communication strategies, and school events.
- Works collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners to support student learning and well-being.
Collaboration and Systems Leadership
- Serves as an active member of the district leadership team and participates in building, district, and community committees.
- Collaborates with district departments and colleagues to ensure alignment, coherence, and effective implementation of initiatives.
- Leads and supports the continuous improvement of educational and operational systems within the school.
- Builds and maintains effective, collaborative team structures that support staff engagement and shared leadership.
Professional Development
- Directs and manages professional learning aligned with district priorities and school improvement goals.
- Facilitates goal setting, data retreats, professional learning communities, and other job-embedded learning opportunities.
- Ensures professional development supports instructional improvement and meets the needs of staff and students.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent or district leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
- Valid Minnesota administrative license (K12 Principal or equivalent)
- Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
- Minimum of three years in a school or district-level leadership role
- Demonstrated success in improving student outcomes and fostering inclusive school environments
- Proven experience in staff supervision, instructional leadership, and organizational management

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading instructional programs that demonstrate measurable gains in student achievement through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement practices.
- Proven leadership in advancing equity and inclusion, including implementing culturally responsive practices and reducing achievement or opportunity gaps.
- Experience successfully leading complex organizational systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change initiatives, build consensus among stakeholders, and implement innovative practices that improve student outcomes.
