Job Summary
The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing instructional and operational leadership to ensure a high-quality educational environment for all students. This role assists in advancing student achievement through data-informed practices, effective instructional support, and the implementation of equitable systems that address the academic, social, and emotional needs of learners. The Assistant Principal helps foster a positive school culture, supports staff development, and ensures the efficient day-to-day operations of the school. In collaboration with staff, families, and district partners, this position contributes to a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning community aligned with district vision and goals.
Essential Job Functions:
Academic and Instructional Leadership
- Supports the principal in serving as an instructional leader, promoting high-quality teaching and learning aligned with district vision and goals.
- Assists in the use of student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and support continuous school improvement.
- Supports the implementation of differentiated instruction and research-based instructional practices to meet the needs of all learners.
- Participates in classroom walkthroughs, instructional observations, and coaching conversations to improve teaching practice and student engagement.
- Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the school improvement plan.
- Promotes a culture of high expectations, continuous improvement, and student-centered learning.
School Leadership and Operations
- Assists in the daily operations of the school, ensuring a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
- Supports supervision of facilities, safety procedures, and operational systems including arrival/dismissal, recess, and student supervision.
- Assists in managing scheduling, student records, reporting requirements, and compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Supports implementation of school policies, procedures, and district initiatives.
- Assists in coordinating building use and collaborating with Community Education and external partners.
Student Support and School Climate
- Addresses student behavior concerns using restorative and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Supports student attendance initiatives and monitors data to improve engagement and reduce chronic absenteeism.
- Collaborates with Student Services staff to support the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.
- Promotes a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture for all students and staff.
Human Capital Leadership
- Assists in the supervision and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff in alignment with district expectations.
- Provides coaching, feedback, and support to staff to improve performance and instructional practices.
- Supports recruitment, hiring processes, and onboarding of new staff.
- Contributes to building a collaborative and high-performing professional culture.
Culture, Climate, and Community Engagement
- Builds positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community members.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders to support school goals and student success.
- Supports family engagement efforts and promotes participation in school activities and initiatives.
- Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Collaboration and Systems Leadership
- Works collaboratively with the principal and district leadership to implement school and district initiatives.
- Participates in building and district committees and professional learning opportunities.
- Supports coordination and alignment of programs and services within the school.
- Contributes to continuous improvement of school systems and structures.
Professional Development
- Supports the planning and implementation of professional learning aligned with school and district goals.
- Participates in professional development to strengthen leadership capacity and instructional expertise.
