The BVCAP Healthy Families of America (HFA) Program is seeking one full-time Family Support Specialist.

Description:

The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term contact/support with families. This activity will occur primarily within the family’s home; each visit should last for at least one hour. Virtual visits may take place as needed. The interventions should be family-centered, strength-based, and directed at: establishing a trusting rela­tionship; assisting in strengthening the parent-child relationship; assisting parents in improving their skills to optimize the home environment; improv­ing the family support system; and increasing the family’s ability to problem-solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children. The FSS partners with families and honors diverse family structures and parenting practices. Activities may also include but are not limited to: administering the Family Resilience and Opportunities for Growth Scale (FROG) Scale; administering screening tools such as the ASQ, ASQ-SE, Depression Screens etc.; identifying and referring families for other supportive services, including health care services. The FSS will also be responsible for assisting the family in establishing goals, and a plan for accomplishment of those goals, as well as the assessment of the growth and development of the target child and health assessments for the participant.

Healthy Families America- Family Support Specialist

· Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s Degree with relevant experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred

· Experience working with young children and their families

· Strong knowledge and commitment to serving families from diverse social and economic backgrounds.

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks

· Willing to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)

· Comfortable working in client’s homes as well as completing virtual home visits

· Background check required

· Must have transportation

· Infant mental health endorsement preferred
