Job Description

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Field Hockey Coach. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees. Responsibilities: The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing administrative, instructional and coaching assistance to the Head Coach with the purpose of building a successful, competitive intercollegiate sports program that also retains and graduates student-athletes.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent);
  • One to three years of field hockey coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level or equivalent international / professional club level;
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations;
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting elite level prospective student-athletes;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as demonstrated through public speaking, clinician experience, and/or use of effective and creative training/coaching techniques;
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to:
    • Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
    • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.

Desired qualifications:

  • National Squad or elite level playing experience;
  • Experience with Sportscode, Hudl and/or Spiideo software;
  • Experience in the development and management of social media.
