Administrative Services Coordinator in Creative Writing

Job Description

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Creative Writing department has an opening for an Administrative Services Coordinator in the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. This 75% role supports key initiatives and day-to-day operations at one of the world's most celebrated creative writing programs, working to sustain a vibrant community of graduate students, faculty, alumni, and donors. The Administrative Services Coordinator will work on campus at the Writers’ Workshop office and will serve as a key point of contact for students, faculty, alumni, donors, and visitors. This position also manages the Writers’ Workshop front office and provides administrative support to the department faculty, administrator, and DEO.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Help plan and execute the literary events series (100+ events per year) in support of alumni engagement, donor stewardship, and academic enrichment. Provide logistical support for all events, including travel support, event planning, honoraria, and general campus engagement.
  • Oversee scheduling and maintenance of the FCRR events space, facilitating academic classes, undergraduate student events, Hancher initiatives, and fundraising programs.
  • Manage ongoing donor outreach and engagement with all living donors (mail, events, student communication) in support of donor stewardship and fundraising initiatives.
  • Provide logistical support for the graduate admissions process, including communications, website upkeep, application processing and review, and onboarding admitted students.
  • Manage operations for the summer program, including advertising, admissions review, student onboarding, student experience, and budget, ensuring that the program remains revenue positive.
  • Hire and supervise 2-4 student workers, including scheduling, training, day-to-day support, and work assignments.
  • Manage the Workshop’s front office operations, including supplies, student and faculty support, mail, and keys
  • Process departmental expenses including events-related expenses, department meetings and events, and activities to support the student cohort.

Education Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


Required Qualifications:

  • 6 months – 1 year administrative office experience.
  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, concurrent objectives, projects or activities, making effective judgements as to prioritizing and time allotment.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
