Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician
Location: Hyannis, MA
Job Type: Contract (13 Weeks)
- Shift: Evening Shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Rotating days, weekends, and holidays
We are seeking a skilled Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical and clinical operations by ensuring all instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and prepared for use. This role plays a critical part in infection prevention and patient safety.
Decontamination:
- Decontaminate instruments and clinical equipment using proper techniques and solutions
- Sort, disassemble, clean, rinse, and disinfect instruments
- Follow proper PPE and infection control protocols
Instrument Preparation:
- Assemble instrument trays using count sheets
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality
- Properly wrap, label, and package instruments
Sterilization Process:
- Select and apply appropriate sterilization methods
- Monitor and document sterilization loads and biological tests
- Ensure adherence to sterilization standards
Storage & Distribution:
- Store sterile supplies and equipment appropriately
- Retrieve and distribute surgical instruments and supplies efficiently
- Utilize preference cards and track equipment usage
Equipment Operation:
- Operate sterilizers (steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris), washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and related equipment
- Ensure proper usage and maintenance of SPD equipment
Inventory Control:
- Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking surgical supplies
- Monitor inventory levels and report shortages
General Duties:
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Participate in training, staff meetings, and ongoing education
- Provide excellent service to patients and healthcare teams
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Aide/Technician
- Sterile Processing Technician Certification required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Basic computer skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Medical terminology knowledge (course or exam preferred)
Must meet one of the following:
- Completion of Anatomy & Physiology coursework (high school level or higher)
- Successful completion of relevant certification or exam
- 3+ years of recent SPD experience
- Sterile Processing Technician Certification
