Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Museum at CU Boulder invites applications for an Entomology Temporary Researcher! This position will work with the Collections Manager on specimen management. This is a temporary position over summer 2026.

Who We Are

The mission of the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History is to contribute to the knowledge of the natural world and human history through research, teaching, and public education.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Complete a rough inventory of incoming donation specimens.
  • Work with Collection Manager to create a specimen management plan.
  • Sort specimens to Order, then Family level.
  • Identify specimens to species where possible, or genus level using literature and specimens in the CUMNH Entomology Collection as reference materials.
  • Create and update a spreadsheets accompanying the specimens that will be used to database the specimens.
  • Curate specimens once identified.
  • Follow best practices for safe specimen handling.

This is a temporary, summer 2026 position.

What We Can Offer

The hourly rate for this temporary, part-time position is $30.00.

Benefits

Temporary positions at the University of Colorado are not benefits-eligible, however, all positions are eligible for paid sick leave.

What We Require

  • Working toward a Master’s degree in Museum & Field Studies.
  • Knowledge of Insect taxonomy.

What You Will Need

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work with small delicate objects.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience working in Entomology Collections.
  • Willingness to work with dead insect specimens.
  • Experience managing spreadsheet data.
