Position SummaryThe Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics within the School of Public Health at Indiana University - Bloomington are
inviting applications for
one or multiple postdoctoral fellow positions in
Infectious Disease
Modeling.Working under the direct supervision and mentorship of Dr. Marco Ajelli, the postdoctoral fellow will focus on applied
infectious disease epidemiology using mathematical, computational, and statistical modeling.
We are seeking researchers who are
passionate about understanding the mechanisms driving epidemic spread, designing mathematical models, and building computational
engines. The postdoctoral fellow will be hired for a one-year position with opportunity for renewal on a yearly basis assuming
satisfactory performance. The positions include benefits and compensation congruent with NIH stipend levels. Applications will be reviewed

April 15, 2026, and evaluated via an expedited decision
process. The appointment start date is negotiable on a case-by-case basis and could begin as early as
May 15,
2026.
About us: Dr. Ajelli leads the Laboratory for Computational Epidemiology and Public Health (CEPH lab)
at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Indiana University School of Public Health, Bloomington. The CEPH lab mission is to
advance the understanding of infectious disease dynamics. While the immediate goal is excellence in scientific research and publication in
high-impact journals, the ultimate mission of the lab is to provide the quantitative evidence to inform national and international public

Basic Qualifications
Qualifications: Candidates must have received a doctoral degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics,
Computer Science, or a related discipline) from an accredited educational institution by the start of appointment. Previous postdoc
experience is not required.
Computational proficiency is a core requirement: Candidates must be proficient in
C or
C++ or a track record of mastering multiple low-level and high-level programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Julia, Fortran).

Additional
Qualifications Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop data-driven
mathematical and computational models, with a primary emphasis on the methodological rigor required for high-impact scientific publications.
This position is designed as a launchpad for a tenure-track faculty career; as such, the postdoctoral fellow will lead at least one major
project while contributing to the collaborative efforts of the lab, contribute to the writing of grant proposals and papers, and mentoring
lab members. The work will primarily focus on respiratory infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, influenza, RSV) and mosquito-borne diseases
but may pivot to public health emergencies.
