Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Relief Veterinary Technician to join our team on an on-call basis. This flexible part-time role involves providing high-level patient care in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. As a key member of our veterinary ambulatory and medical transport service, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our patients during transport and in emergent situations.
Schedule:
- Flexible, on-call day shifts (2-4 days per week).
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional patient care during veterinary transport and ambulatory services.
- Monitor and interpret biological parameters, including vital signs, and take appropriate action based on findings.
- Safely and effectively restrain animals using proper techniques to ensure the safety of both the patient and team members.
- Perform CPR, rescue breathing, and administer first aid as needed in emergency situations.
- Lead and take charge during emergent situations, demonstrating confidence and quick decision-making.
- Provide advanced nursing care for critical patients, including administering medications, fluid therapy, and oxygen support.
- Operate and maintain ICU-specific equipment such as IV/infusion pumps, Syringe pumps, patient monitors, etc.
- Assist in the stabilization and transport of critically ill or injured animals.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, veterinary staff, and other team members to ensure seamless care and transport.
Qualifications:
- Currently registered veterinary technician with active license (OVMLB)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an emergency veterinary hospital setting or 2 years of experience in primary practice.
- ICU experience or advanced training in critical care veterinary medicine is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, and medical procedures.
- Proficiency in handling and restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments.
- Reliable transportation and a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Familiarity with ICU protocols, including aseptic techniques, pain management, and patient monitoring.
- Candidate must be able to pass a successful drug screening and background check.
Compensation:
- Competitive hourly rate: $25 to $35 per hour per call.
- Additional daily on-call fee.
