While under the supervisor of the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Wildlife Foreman, The Fish and Wildlife Technician II position within the Green River Region of the Wildlife Division is responsible for implementing the daily technical activities associated with the maintenance, management, and enhancement of Peabody WMA.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs habitat management activities such as strip mowing and disking, preparing food plots, and chemical application to meet habitat management goals. Operates vehicles, tractors, ATVs, and other equipment as necessary to complete these tasks.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, tractors, equipment, buildings, roads, and area infrastructure when required.
- Uses tools, parts, and consumables.
- Utilizes and understands Fleet Management policies for vehicle use, maintenance and repairs, and agency policies for purchases.
- Maintains maintenance logs on vehicles and equipment as necessary.
- Assists area biologist with managed hunts and interacts professionally with members of the public during managed hunts and daily work activities.
- Assists area biologist with the collection of biological data and wildlife survey and monitoring activities.
- Maintains administrative records and reports including prompt submission of timesheets, activity logs, and receipts.
- Attends trainings and workshops, and works towards receiving necessary certifications such as RX fire qualifications and Pesticide Applicators certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Preferred Skills and Abilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- A working knowledge of farm equipment is needed for this position.
- Willing to complete various trainings and certifications such as KY Pesticide applicator licensing and KDFWR prescribed fire certifications.
- Computer skills including general knowledge of computer programs such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office.
- Ability to multi-task.
