Position: Music Director, Grace United Methodist Church, Lafayette, Indiana 47904
Reporting to: Senior Pastor
Status: Parttime, up to average of 10 hours per week
Compensation: up to $25/hour up to 520 hours annually, depending on experience.
Purpose: The music director serves Grace United Methodist Church by leading, developing, coordinating and supervising church music volunteers of all ages and abilities.
Qualifications:
· Minimum BA/BS degree in a field compatible with music OR comparable years of choral leadership
· Experience and proficiency in choral direction
· Experience and proficiency in instrumental skills/leadership preferred, encouraged
· Openness to incorporating both traditional and contemporary sacred music into worship regularly
· Ability to work with volunteer singers of all ages and abilities
· Respect for the mission and values of the United Methodist Church
· Dependability, professionalism, good communication skills and a collaborative spirit
Work Schedule: During the months of September through May consists of weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals and leading the Chancel (adult) choir at least 2 Sundays a month in worship.
Rehearse and lead children’s choir per performance schedule.
Participate in monthly Worship Committee meetings to plan choral and congregational elements of worship.
Additional hours during the year to seek out and select choral music, maintain music library and prepare annual music ministry budget.
Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and coordinate musical elements of all regular and special worship services with the Worship team, including at least one special music or cantata performance annually.
· Recruit, welcome and integrate music volunteers of all ages and abilities.
· Select and schedule congregational hymns and special music performances and accompaniment.
· Provide supervision and direction to all special instrumental, children and youth music offerings, working with sound system personnel as needed to optimize presentations.
· Schedule and oversee 3-4 children’s music performances and required rehearsals.
· Provide quarterly music ministry updates to the congregation, electronically or in person.
· Provide at least 2 music related Young Disciple presentations.
· Maintain robust communication with all music ministry participants to assure accurate understanding of music content and schedules.
