Position Summary

The Director of Data Architecture is responsible for designing, governing, and evolving the enterprise data architecture that powers analytics, reporting, integrations, and advanced data use cases across the organization. This role ensures data is scalable, secure, high quality, and aligned to business strategy and will support clinical, operational, financial, and growth initiatives.

Reporting to the SVP of Information Technology, the Director of Data Architecture serves as the technical authority for data modeling, data platform design, integration patterns, and governance standards. This role partners closely with IT Engineering, IT Applications, Finance, Accounting, Operations, and other departmental teams to ensure data is treated as a strategic asset.
Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Architecture
  • Define and maintain the enterprise data architecture across source systems, integrations, data platforms, and analytics layers.
  • Design scalable, cloud first architectures for data ingestion, storage, transformation, and consumption.
  • Establish reference architectures and standards for:
    • Data warehousing and lakehouse platforms
    • Dimensional, semantic, and operational data models
    • Batch and near real time data patterns
  • Ensure architecture supports growth through M&A, de novo builds, and platform migrations.
Data Modeling & Semantic Layer Design
  • Lead the design of logical, physical, and dimensional data models supporting clinical, operational, and financial analytics.
  • Define conformed dimensions and master data domains (patients, providers, locations, procedures, payors, etc.).
  • Partner with BI teams to create semantic layers optimized for self‑service analytics and executive reporting.
Data Integration & Platform Strategy
  • Architect and standardize integration patterns for:
    • PMS platforms (e.g., Denticon, Cloud 9, DSN Cloud)
    • Revenue cycle, imaging, patient engagement, marketing, and finance systems
    • Define best practices for ETL/ELT, APIs, streaming, and file based integrations
    • Guide cloud data platform decisions (e.g., Azure, Snowflake, Synapse, Databricks, Fabric)
Data Governance, Security & Compliance
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards, including:
    • Data quality rules and monitoring
    • Metadata, lineage, and documentation practices
    • Master data management principles
    • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, SOC 2, and internal security standards.
    • Partner with Security and IT Engineering on access models, encryption, and audit readiness.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
  • Act as the data architecture authority for IT and the business.
  • Review and approve data designs produced by engineers and vendors.
  • Mentor data engineers and analytics team members on modeling and architectural best practices.
  • Translate business needs into durable, scalable technical designs.
Innovation & Future State Planning
  • Evaluate emerging technologies in analytics, AI/ML, and data platforms.
  • Design architectures that support predictive analytics, automation, and AI driven insights.
  • Contribute to multi year data and analytics roadmaps aligned with enterprise strategy.
Qualifications:
  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in data architecture, data engineering, or analytics architecture roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft Data Architect, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks DAMA‑DMBOK) preferred.
  • Proven experience designing enterprise data platforms in complex, multi system environments.
  • Strong experience in healthcare or regulated industries (dental, finance, or insurance preferred).
Technical Expertise
  • Advanced data modeling expertise (dimensional, relational, and analytical models).
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • SQL and relational database platforms
    • Cloud data warehouses and lakehouse architectures
    • ETL/ELT and data integration frameworks
  • Experience with BI and analytics tooling (e.g., Power BI, semantic models).
  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
Architecture & Strategy
  • Ability to balance pragmatic delivery with long term architecture vision.
  • Experience setting standards and influencing teams without direct authority.
  • Strong documentation and diagramming skills (architecture diagrams, data flows, models).
  • Excellent analytical, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Other
  • Thorough understanding of information technology procedures and practices.
  • Proficient with, or able to quickly become proficient with, a range of general and specialized applications, software, and hardware used in the organization and industry.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Highly adept at receiving professional feedback and agile with implementing change as directed.

Physical Requirements
  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.

  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.
