Position Title: Student Success Coach
Location: River Valley Middle High School
Reports To: MHS Assistant Principal
Work Schedule: 183 Work Days, 7:40 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.
(for the 2026-2027 school year, hours will be 7:35 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.)
Starting Wage: Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications in alignment with the Support Staff Handbook Teacher Assistant Pay Schedule.
The Student Success Coach is a paraprofessional academic support position designed to provide targeted, data-informed support to a defined caseload of students who require more than core instruction but do not require intensive intervention services. The position exists to strengthen student access to learning, improve academic engagement, and support student growth during the school day.
This is a classroom-embedded support role aligned to the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports. The classroom teacher remains the primary instructional expert and primary interventionist. The Student Success Coach works in partnership with teachers and school staff to support identified students and help create the conditions under which targeted intervention can occur more effectively during core instruction.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate degree, or equivalent through an approved state academic assessment
- Basic understanding of the educational process and the ability to assist students in applying knowledge
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, administration, Student Services, students, and families
- Ability to relate positively to students, parents, and staff while maintaining professional boundaries
- Strong work ethic, dependability, flexibility, and punctuality
- Ability to support students in structured small group and classroom settings
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in working with students and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful classroom management experience
- Successful experience working with students in a school setting
- Experience supporting students with academic intervention, executive functioning, or re-engagement needs
- Familiarity with MTSS, PBIS, Love and Logic, CHAMPS, and school-based intervention systems
- Experience using student data to help inform support decisions
- Familiarity with student data systems and tools, including PowerSchool and NWEA MAP
- Experience collaborating with classroom teachers in support of instruction
- Provide targeted academic support to a defined caseload of students
- Support students who need more than core instruction but do not require intensive intervention services
- Help students build access, confidence, structure, and momentum within core instruction
- Focus support on current learning rather than completion of older missing work
- Reinforce academic expectations and productive work habits connected to live classroom learning
- Work inside core classrooms where identified students are concentrated
- Collaborate with classroom teachers during live instruction to support targeted students
- Assist with small group support, guided practice, reteaching, checking for understanding, and real-time academic coaching
- Support executive functioning, organization, task initiation, accountability, and re-engagement as connected to current classroom learning
- Supervise the larger group when appropriate so the classroom teacher can provide targeted small group instruction
- Help create the conditions under which the classroom teacher remains the primary interventionist for identified students
- Maintain a defined caseload of students identified for support
- Assist with identifying students for support using NWEA MAP data, classroom performance, teacher input, and team review
- Prioritize students whose academic performance indicates a need for more targeted support than Tier 1 alone can provide
- Participate in problem-solving conversations related to student grouping, placement, and instructional need
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, administration, Student Services Department, and intervention staff to support student success.
- Communicate regularly with teachers regarding student needs, lesson support, and instructional priorities
- Participate in planning and coordination regarding scheduling, grouping, and delivery of support
- Maintain appropriate communication with parents and guardians as directed by administration and in coordination with the broader student support team
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing student needs, classroom dynamics, and building priorities by adjusting support, schedules, and approaches as needed
- Track support provided to students and maintain accurate records related to interventions and student response
- Assist in monitoring student progress using classroom performance, teacher feedback, and academic data
- Help the building review the impact of the role over time and make adjustments to caseloads, supports, and schedules as needed
- Use district systems and documentation tools as assigned
- Participate in professional learning related to MTSS, CHAMPS, Love and Logic, executive functioning support, and other relevant district systems and practices
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
- Carry out responsibilities in a manner that is student-centered, collaborative, and aligned with district expectations
