Medical Assistant

Job Description

The MAP Medical Assistant is responsible for the safe administration of medications and supporting individuals’ health needs in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MAP) regulations. This role ensures proper medication management, documentation, and communication with healthcare providers while promoting the well-being of individuals served. This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours per week on-site in Jamaica Plain.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the duties and responsibilities that will be required of the position, but additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accurately document medication administration in MAP logs/MARs
  • Maintain up-to-date medication records and health files
  • Report medication errors or incidents per MAP guidelines
  • Ensure medication sheets go through the proper approval process, with at least two signatures
  • Maintain manifestation and discharge of medication for all IHC Residential units
  • Follow up with pharmacy for refills
  • Maintain emergency binders including face sheets, medication sheets, and insurance forms; create new emergency binders when necessary
  • Monitor and schedule all necessary medical, labs and dental appointments
  • Monitor and record vital signs for all patients on a monthly basis
  • Assist with first aid when necessary
  • Communicate with nurses, physicians, and MAP consultants
  • Report changes in condition or medication concerns
  • Support care plan implementation
  • Follow all MAP policies and infection control procedures
  • Maintain strictest level of confidentiality with respect to agency, employee, and client information
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • At least one year of experience working with children required, pediatric mental health strongly preferred
  • Strong commitment to Italian Home’s values, philosophy and mission

  • Sound and appropriate judgment
  • Creative, thoughtful and able to make good decisions quickly in crisis situations.
  • Discretion regarding confidentiality of clients/their histories, families, and co-workers
  • Ability to understand and implement agency treatment philosophy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential in conjunction with computer literacy
  • Receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development
  • Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and safely
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to bend, reach, move and lift 75 pounds
  • Acquire and retain First Aid, CPR and MAP certification
  • Acquire and retain certification in de-escalation and restraint curriculum

The hourly wage range for this role is $23-27 per hour USD. This number does not reflect additional compensation-related benefits such as PTO, medical and life insurance, EAP, and the Italian Home for Children 403(b) retirement plan.
