Job Description and Duties
Be a land steward as part of our productive and collaborative Conserved Lands Program (CLP) located in the North Central Region (NCR) of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW)!
Under the close supervision and constructive oversight of the Senior ES (Supervisor), the Environmental Scientist (ES) follows State guidelines to prepare, draft, and process Land Management Plans (LMP) for two CDFW Wildlife Areas in CDFW’s North Central Region (NCR). Secondary duties include collaborating with internal and external programs while assisting with overall lands management goals and objectives from field and office locations.

This position is a 12-month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.
Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer including familiarity with Microsoft Office software. Responsibilities are split between office and field work. Reporting locations will include teleworking from home and in the North Central Region office, and some field work at CDFW-managed properties. Office work will entail researching reviewing and developing documents in addition to working with Regional staff, interact with headquarters staff and members of the public via e-mail, telephone and through virtual meetings. Ability to legally drive for up to 8 hours. Ability to work outdoors for up to week-long trips in variable weather conditions, operate 4 wheel drive vehicles, with and without trailers, and may include boats, wading in streams, and walking over uneven outdoor terrain carrying a 30 lb. backpack for up to 6 hours, travel over uneven terrain, up and down steep terrain, long distances by foot in wet and cold weather to hot and dry weather, overnight travel (less than 15% of duty) for remote locations may be required. This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as CDFW staff on certain occasions.
