Summary This position is located at Raven Rock Mountain Complex, Operations and Maintenance Division and serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, responsible for the installation , operation, maintenance, & repair of a variety of commercial & industrial refrigeration & air conditioning units & systems, industrial water distribution systems, and mechanical ventilating systems most of which supply areas in an underground facility that has special HVAC requirements for sensitive equipment. Responsibilities This is a Direct Hire Public Notice. Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Installs, maintains, and repairs commercial and domestic refrigeration equipment such as walk-in refrigerators and freezers. Performs blast valve installation, maintenance and repair. Applies skilled mechanical, electrical, and electronic knowledge on one of a kind blast valves. Performs maintenance, repair and testing of multiple air treatment systems. Performs operation, maintenance, testing and balancing of the smoke evacuation system, which is highly critical in an underground facility. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MISSION ESSENTIAL POSITION: Mission essential employees may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations ( e.g., building closure due to power outage) causing disruptions of government operations, and are required to maintain contact with their supervisor during any dismissal or closure situation unless specifically excused by their supervisor. For qualifications determinations, it is recommended that applicants include their months and hours worked per week for each employment listed on their resume. Your background must demonstrate a full range of performing simple common tasks or received training on this type of work, including: 1) interpreting instructions, specifications and blueprints to repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems; 2) Troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration systems operations to detect component malfunctions; and 3) installing and repairing a variety of large commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning equipment under close supervision of a supervisor or lead. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Trouble shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Considerable physical effort is expended to maneuver large equipment into and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling. Frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders., and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. Necessary repairs and installations may be made from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on arc frequently in hard-to-reach places requiring stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling for extended periods of time. WORKING CONDITIONS: The workplace is located within an underground facility. As well as buildings located at the surface. Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Subject to cuts, bruises, electric shock and falls from ladders; injury from lifting and handling heavy materials and equipment; discomfort from noise, fumes and vibrations of equipment. ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, as part of their application package, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, indicating the service member is otherwise eligible and will be discharged or released within 120 days from the date of submission.. Members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if they are on terminal leave. Education Education cannot be substituted for experience.
