Position Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the branch and field teams, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and at a consistently high-quality standard. This role owns daily production planning, scheduling, labor management, and field execution-while partnering closely with Account Management and Branch Leadership to deliver an exceptional client experience.
Job Description
Process Improvement and Operational Efficiency
- Analyze current operational workflows and identify gaps in execution.
- Implement improvements that increase productivity, quality, and accountability.
- Standardize processes to reduce cost, eliminate rework, and improve consistency.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, supervise, and develop field leadership (foremen, crew leaders, operators).
- Conduct training, coaching, performance reviews, and corrective action when required.
- Build and maintain a positive, disciplined, high-standard culture.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and crew staffing to ensure routes and jobs are properly manned.
Forecasting, Scheduling, and Labor Management
- Own weekly scheduling and production planning using Aspire.
- Manage labor planning and staffing levels to meet production goals and financial targets.
- Monitor labor hours, job pacing, and daily execution to hit budgeted performance.
- Coordinate material needs, job preparation, and equipment readiness ahead of schedule.
Procurement, Inventory, and Equipment Readiness
- Ensure products and materials are sourced from preferred vendors and staged correctly.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet demand without waste or overstocking.
- Coordinate with Fleet leadership to ensure equipment tracking, preventative maintenance, and readiness standards are met.
Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards, DOT requirements, and industry regulations.
- Lead daily safety execution (for example: Stretch and Flex, gate checks, PPE compliance, equipment inspections).
- Identify risks early and implement corrective actions immediately.
- Conduct audits and maintain required documentation.
Reporting, KPIs, and Performance Metrics
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to labor, schedule adherence, job profitability, and quality.
- Provide daily operational updates to Branch Leadership with clear wins, issues, and solutions.
- Use company tools to drive decisions and accountability (for example: Aspire, 90.io, reporting dashboards, job costing).
Customer Satisfaction and Jobsite Quality
- Ensure field execution supports an excellent client experience and consistent quality.
- Address operational issues that impact client satisfaction quickly and professionally.
- Partner with Account Management to align service expectations, priorities, and communication.
Project Management and Growth Support
- Lead or contribute to operational initiatives that improve profitability, capacity, and service reliability.
- Coordinate across departments (operations, fleet, admin, sales, account management) to deliver branch goals.
- Ensure work is delivered on time, within scope, and within forecast.
Collaboration and Communication
- Serve as the operational bridge between office and field.
- Communicate expectations clearly to crews and hold follow-through accountable.
- Collaborate with vendors and partners to optimize execution and responsiveness.
What We Are Looking For
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Landscape Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
- 7+ years of experience in commercial landscaping, construction, snow operations, or similar service industry.
- 2–3+ years of leadership experience managing field teams.
- Applicator license (pesticide/fertilizer) preferred, as applicable.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and operational software; Aspire experience strongly preferred.
- Comfortable using mobile tools for field reporting, communication, and app-based workflows.
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced, weather-driven environment with changing priorities.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to build a team-oriented, accountable, high-performance culture.
