The Clinical Fieldwork Supervisor provides instructional, supervisory, and operational support across three clinical education pathways: the medical internship program, the education internship program, and the undergraduate clinical training program. The position ensures consistent, high quality supervision; timely feedback; and coordinated communication with clinical instructors and program faculty. Responsibilities include direct student supervision, DPI required observations, instructional duties, grading, and ongoing support for students and clinical partners. The role also includes flexible workload capacity to address the unpredictable, time-sensitive issues inherent to clinical education.

Medical Internship Program

  • Conduct virtual midterm evaluations for all medical internship students.

  • Facilitate required 4 week 1:1 check-ins to assess early performance and support needs.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support, including troubleshooting site issues and coordinating with clinical instructors.

  • Lead synchronous medical discussion sessions and support the associated discussion course.

Education Internship Program

  • Complete DPI required observations, including one in person observation, one virtual observation, and one written summary per student.

  • Travel to education sites for required in person observations.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support, including remediation, communication with site supervisors, and documentation of student progress.

  • Support the education internship discussion course through assignment creation, grading, and weekly facilitation.

Undergraduate Clinic Program

  • Develop and grade weekly instructional modules for undergraduate clinicians.

  • Conduct midterm meetings to review progress and set goals.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support, including remediation and communication with supervisors.

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Facilitate weekly discussion courses for medical and education internship students.

  • Create assignments, provide individualized feedback, and maintain timely grading.

  • Lead synchronous medical discussion sessions.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Management of remediation plans as needed

  • Coordinate scheduling and documentation for midterms, observations, and student meetings.

  • Maintain communication with clinical instructors and program faculty.

  • Support program operations to ensure compliance with accreditation expectations and clinical education standards by ensuring required documentation is completed accurately and on time, following and enforcing supervision standards, monitoring and supporting high-quality clinical education experiences, and maintaining consistency and standardization across pathways (same processes, expectations, documentation, strategies).

Work will involve travel between education sites as well as work performed on the UW-Milwaukee campus.

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RS&T) offers programs in Occupational Therapy, Assistive Technology and Accessible Design, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences & Disorders, Performance Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, and Therapeutic Recreation.

Communication Sciences and Disorders Program

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program offers a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree that prepare students for careers in speech-language pathology through evidence-based coursework, hands-on clinical training, and research opportunities embedded throughout the curriculum. Nine clinical academic staff and tenured faculty educate 60 graduate and approximately 80 undergraduate students. Accredited for over 55 years, the graduate program advances its mission to develop leaders in clinical practice who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with communication and swallowing needs.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is expected to be $8 0, 000-$ 85 ,000 ( full-time rate ) for a 12 -month appointment at 45 % ($36,000-$38,250 ). Final salary offer will be contingent upon degree and the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the selection process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s license (or other such valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) and be able to meet or exceed the minimu m requirements for drivi ng on state business as detailed here: https://uwm.edu/risk-management/drivers/

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or a related field

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCCSLP)

  • Wisconsin Department of Safety & Professional Services (DSPS) Speech Language Pathology License

  • Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) License (or eligibility)

  • Experience supervising students in clinical setti n gs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Learning Management System (Canvas), student hour/competency tracking system (Calipso)

  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills

  • Ability to collaborate with clinical partners and support students across diverse clinical environments as evidenced by current, past or related work.
