Job Title: Correctional Officer

Department: Prison

Grade & Wage: Staring Rate: $16.79 Per Hour

Six Months Rate: $19.34 Per Hour

One-Year Rate: 23.83 Per Hour

Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week) with benefits, Non-Exempt, Union-Eligible

Qualifications: Minimum high school graduate or equivalent required.

Responsibilities: Maintaining the security of the prison and care, custody, and safety of inmates.

Supervise and record movement and daily activity of inmates in assigned areas.

Preserve the security of all persons in the prison by conducting cell searches, area searches, body searches, and perimeter checks.

Provides back-up security efforts to other corrections personnel as needed.

Monitors visits, church services, treatment programs and all other inmate activity.

Provides minor medical assistance as required.

Counsel’s inmates on personnel and institutional problems.

Interacts with other criminal justice agencies and the public.

Escorts inmates through the prison.

Assists in commitments and releases of inmates.

Supervises and maintains control of their areas of responsibility as to ensure inmates are following the rules and regulations of the prison.

Monitor the activities within their areas of responsibilities to prevent problems or security issues.

Transport inmates to and from medical appointments as required.

Schedule: Rotating, split, and other variations of shift work may be required. This includes work scheduled for holidays and weekends. Unscheduled overtime and mandatory overtime are required.
