Position Details

Job Summary : The Facility and Special Event Support person is responsible for the oversight of day-to-day tasks associated with unplanned maintenance requests, shipping and receiving, and special event set up and tear down. They will assist the Vice President of Facility Operations and the Facilities Engineer in the oversight and support of groundskeeping and janitorial staff to ensure U of D Jesuit High School and Academy can function as a school and event space throughout the year. Normal working hours for this position are 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require overtime and schedule variation according to operational/facility needs.

Duties and Performance Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all maintenance requests and ensures the timely completion thereof.
  • Assists the Vice President of Facility Operations and the Facilities Engineer in tasking/directing any temporarily assigned summer employees.
  • Assists the Facilities Engineer in coordinating large scale “team” maintenance projects.
  • Oversees the preventative maintenance schedules and repairs to vehicles and busses.
  • Assists in the removal of snow and ice, including outside normal business hours as necessary, to ensure access and availability to participants of planned events.
  • Assists in maintaining the exterior grounds of the main campus and all satellite campuses.
  • Assists in janitorial duties, particularly following special events.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for set up and tear down operations for special events.
  • Monitors the condition of the equipment used for set-ups. Executes repairs or coordinates replacement of equipment as needed.
  • Monitors the exterior entrances to the building. Assists the grounds crew with sweeping and cleaning stair areas as needed.
  • Manages the shipping and receiving program, ensuring package recipients receive timely notification of their deliveries.
  • Assists janitorial staff in response to emergency clean up calls.
  • Removes graffiti from walls and fixtures.
  • Surveys all areas of responsibility daily and reports any adverse conditions to the supervisor.
  • Surveys the building on a daily basis and makes or reports any needed repairs.
  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of all Facilities Department small equipment.
  • Works effectively with outside contractors in support of maintenance projects.
  • Works effectively and efficiently with faculty and staff when responding to maintenance requests.
  • Ensures unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitors high-risk locations (locker rooms and bathrooms), etc.

20. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience :

  • Must be a demonstrated self-starter, organized, and trustworthy.
  • Must be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude with small equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Must be able to sign on to computer, navigate the online work order program, open and respond to emails.
Reliable transportation and a valid Michigan Driver’s License in good standing.

Other Skills and Abilities :

  • Must be willing to support the Jesuit and Catholic tradition of U of D Jesuit and the Mission of the School.
  • Must attend required abuse risk management training.
  • Must complete all assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Must adhere to policies related to boundaries with students.
Must accept responsibility for reporting any suspicious and/or inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Physical Working Conditions :

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder at least 12’ tall.
  • Must be able to work in a man lift above ground to 40 feet.
  • Must be able to properly lift a minimum of 60 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable operating in loud and confined spaces.
  • Must be physically able to perform the functions which require standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting.

Working Environment :

General high school and power plant setting with exposure to maintenance and cleaning chemicals, dirt, dust, body fluids, refrigerant etc.

Regular exposure to unfavorable conditions such as weather conditions, or confined, noisy or dirty locations, or cold.
