The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the 2026-27 school year:


Director of Exceptional Learners


POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Exceptional Learners directs the planning, development, organization, management, direction, and implementation of all aspects of Special Education programs of the district. Responsibilities include Special Education services and their integration into the MTSS process at the school and district levels.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborates with district staff, families, and special education teachers for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating educational services and/or programs
  • Implements procedures and coordinates the process to identify special education students at all grade levels district-wide, including review of student data and testing of students.
  • Meets and collaborates with principals, other ECSEC Directors, EL Director, and HA Director monthly to collaborate with staffing and programming at each school
  • Works with district leadership to set staffing levels for school special education programs for the purpose of providing services with fiscal efficiency.
  • Monitors all personnel in delivering high-quality services to students.
  • Develops, writes, and monitors proposals for budgets and grants (including Maintenance of Effort) for the purpose of meeting the district’s strategic plan and goals.
  • Evaluates district/school Special Education program and monitors the implementation of these programs to ensure compliance with regulations in each location.
  • Implements assigned programs and/or projects for the purpose of conforming to district and state curriculum and/or instructional objectives
  • Manages fiscal resources from district funds and special education grants.
  • Oversees documentation and reports data to comply with Federal and State regulations.
  • Communicates information on programs, services, and regulations to school personnel, parents, the School Board.
  • Supports building-level principals and district leadership in recruiting, hiring, supervising, and evaluating special education staff
  • Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff.
  • Supports the training of special education instructional assistants to ensure well-trained personnel.
  • In collaboration with district leadership, writes and/or reviews drafts of School Board policy for special education as is needed or required, for the purpose of assuring program consistency and compliance with state and federal rules in all locations.
  • Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of Special Education students, for the purpose of managing excellent programs for these students.
  • Incorporates policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations. Ensure that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child can achieve at a high level and be prepared for post-secondary success.
  • Plans and conducts parent meetings, as needed.
  • Assists with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
  • Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, in collaboration with assistant and district leadership.
  • Trains personnel and oversees IEP and MTSS meetings and paperwork, as needed.
  • Supports and helps monitor the MTSS processes for the building and district.
  • Coordinates extended year programming
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Indiana School Administration license
  • Additional Certification/Training is a plus


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of five years of successful classroom experience required
  • Experience successfully working with Special Education students
  • Related leadership experience preferred
  • Experience providing professional development and follow-up coaching preferred
  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide programming.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal testing procedures and guidelines – WIDA Access, HA, and Special Education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in instruction, including language acquisition and accommodation services for students.
  • Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) and collaborative learning model.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess the skills and disposition that support and build upon collegiality and collaboration.
  • Thorough knowledge of K-12 Core Curriculum Standards, curriculum resources, instruction, and assessment across all instructional levels, curricular programs, and curriculum structure.
  • Ability to analyze instruction and resource needs and provide support by implementing appropriate professional development experiences.
  • Skill in analyzing the instructional process through the disaggregation, triangulation, and application of student data.
  • Knowledge of the processes for MTSS and identification of Special Education students.
  • Possess knowledge and skills with the integration of technology in content area(s).

214 days per year
