Industrial Pipefitting Journeyperson

Job Description

Shape complex piping systems that power modern manufacturing

Location: Rochester, NY

At Re:Build Optimation, you’ll join a team that designs and fabricates automated equipment and process skids for customers across diverse industries. As part of the Re:Build Manufacturing family, we are revitalizing American manufacturing with advanced technology, disciplined operations, and a long-term investment mindset—creating meaningful, sustainable careers in communities like Rochester.

A day in this role

You’ll arrive to a shop that hums with precision. Drawings in hand, you’ll lay out and cut pipe using the right method for the job—hand tools, pipe cutters, cutting torches, or a pipe cutting machine. After prepping ends, you’ll assemble tubing and fittings, and join pipe by threading, soldering, brazing, or cementing non‑metallic connections to spec. You’ll inspect systems and supporting machinery for issues, operate material handling equipment to position pipe and heavy components, and keep work flowing safely and efficiently.

What you’ll tackle

  • Cut, prep, and fit pipe with both handheld and powered tools
  • Assemble tubes, fittings, and non‑metallic attachments; complete joints via threading, soldering, brazing, or cemented connections
  • Inspect piping and related machinery to spot malfunctions early
  • Operate lifts and other material movement equipment to handle pipe, supports, and heavy machinery
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, programmers, planners, project managers, and customers to deliver top‑quality results
  • Champion safety—follow NFPA 70E procedures; participate in toolbox talks, safety audits, and continuous improvements
  • Act promptly to correct and/or report unsafe conditions, acts, or incidents
  • Model craftsmanship; mentor less‑experienced teammates and pitch in across tasks as needed

What you bring

  • Hands‑on pipefitting experience with strong blueprint reading, familiarity with plumbing codes, and solid trade math
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy under time and quality pressure
  • Clear communication and a collaborative approach with clients, engineers, and partners
  • Physical ability to climb and work at heights, enter confined spaces, and lift/move heavy items
  • Comfort working in hot/cold conditions and all weather
  • Ability to read and write in English; basic computer and communication skills
  • Regular full‑time availability on a 40‑hour day schedule, with flexibility for overtime and occasional travel

Growth, rewards, and impact

Expect variety, autonomy, and support from seasoned teammates. We’ll coach you to take on more responsibility as you’re ready, and you’ll build a portfolio of unique, custom projects.

Compensation: $27.00–$55.00 per hour, depending on education and years of experience. This role is eligible for our annual bonus plan and long‑term incentive plan.
