Job Title: Senior Observation Specialist – Summer Food Service Program

Reports To: NSLP/SFSP Director

Management Position: No

Position Type: Temporary, June – August 2026

Position Location: Remote; applicants must reside in Michigan, Kentucky, or North Carolina.

Pay Structure: Regular hourly rate $25.00-$28.00, travel rate $15.00 per hour

Availability: Monday – Friday

Travel Requirements: Travel required within state of residency. Travel beyond 150 miles will be provided with rental car. Overnight travel during the workweek may be required, based on business needs.

Position Overview:

The Senior Observation Specialist will conduct on-site monitoring visits and administrative reviews for Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sites and sponsors throughout the summer. This role requires frequent travel within the assigned state. Specialists are expected to complete all reviews assigned and provide technical assistance to program operators to ensure program compliance. Monitoring visits will occur during scheduled meal service times; for breakfast meal service this may require early morning departure for arrival prior to service.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Conduct on-site observational reviews of meal service, food safety practices, civil rights compliance, and program records.

· Complete all required questionnaires, forms, and reporting related to the Summer Food Service Program as directed.

· Provide technical assistance to sponsors to improve understanding of program requirements and implement corrective actions.

· Collaborate with team members to ensure thorough, complete, and consistent reviews.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state regulations, as well as industry best practices.

· Submit completed reviews by the established deadline.

Preferred Knowledge

· Preferred background in nutrition, business, accounting, or related field.

· Knowledge of Federal and State Regulations pertaining to child nutrition programs, specifically the Summer Food Service Program, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Food Program, and National School Lunch Programs.

Skill requirements

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Technology proficiency

· Effective organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

· Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)

Additional Requirements

· Fingerprint clearance (as applicable) will be required.

· Must have a current and valid driver’s license.

· Must have personal laptop or tablet with reliable internet connection
