Leadership Profile - The Ideal Candidate:
The Board of Education seeks an experienced, dynamic, and deeply collaborative educational leadersomeone who combines visionary strategic thinking with proven management expertise, authentic relationship-building, data-driven decision-making, and an unwavering commitment to student outcomes. The next Superintendent will lead one of Ohio's highest-performing school districts and will be expected to sustain, elevate, and expand upon its exceptional legacy.
Drawing on the competencies that define leadership excellence across the district's administrative team, including the frameworks, responsibilities, and knowledge areas that guide leadership throughout NAPLS, the Board seeks a superintendent who demonstrates mastery across the following domains:
I. Vision, Strategy, and Continuous Improvement
Prioritizes workload effectively across multiple complex projects and resolves conflicting demands with sound judgment and organizational discipline.
II. Academic Leadership: Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction
Maintains oversight of state, federal, and grant-funded academic programs, fulfilling all compliance and reporting requirements.
III. Operational Excellence: Business, Finance, and Facilities
The next Superintendent of NAPLS must understand that operational excellence is not ancillary to educational excellenceit is foundational to it. The reliability and accountability of every support systembusiness services, facilities, transportation, child nutrition, safety, and technologydirectly contributes to the fulfillment of the district's purpose. The Board seeks a superintendent who:
Has experience leading or supporting successful levy, permanent improvement, and/or bond campaigns grounded in community trust and demonstrated financial credibility.
Communicates financial priorities transparently to the community and Board, building confidence that public resources are invested wisely and in direct service of students.
Understands and can navigate contracts with outside agencies, insurance programs, and applicable state and local regulatory requirements.
Maintains confidentiality as required by direction, district policy, and Ohio and federal law.
VI. Communication, Transparency, and Community Engagement
Contributes to public information documents, community communications, and media relations as the district's primary spokesperson.
VII. Partnerships: Local, Civic, Business, Governmental, and Philanthropic
The next Superintendent will serve as the district's primary ambassador to the broader community to develop and sustain relationships that bring resources, opportunity, and civic alignment to NAPLS students. Specifically, the Board seeks a leader who will:
Develop and sustain collaborative relationships with higher education partners, leveraging these connections to expand advanced coursework, dual enrollment, and college readiness programming for students.
VIII. Campus Safety, Security, and Emergency Operations
The safety of every student, staff member, and visitor on the NAPLS campus is a non-negotiable priority. The next Superintendent will provide leadership for the comprehensive safety and security of the Learning Community, including:
Championing a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment in which every student and staff member can thrive.
IX. Well-Being, Student Services, and The R Factor
Actively supports student services programs, ensuring quality, safety, and alignment with the district's commitment to each student.
X. Policy, Governance, and Board Relations
Administers a system to address legal issues in cooperation with the Board of Education, CFO/Treasurer, Superintendent's cabinet, school attorneys, and other appropriate parties.
XI. Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking, and Accountability
Models intellectual honesty and humility to acknowledge failure, commit to concrete corrective action, and pursue growth, just as the district expects of all staff.
XII. Technology Proficiency and Data-Driven Leadership
Terms of Employment & Compensation:
The New Albany-Plain Local Schools Board of Education will offer a competitive, negotiable, and comprehensive compensation package commensurate with the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Contract: A multiyear contract with provisions for annual performance review and evaluation, including measurable performance benchmarks.
Salary: Highly competitive; commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
Performance Incentive: Annual performance incentive compensation eligibility for achieving measurable outcomes aligned to the district's Statement of Purpose, CIP benchmarks, or as otherwise mutually agreed upon with the Board of Education.
Benefits: A comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement contributions consistent with applicable Ohio retirement systems.
Work Year: 260-day administrative contract, excluding annual vacation and personal leave.
