Job Description

Part-Time Music Teacher St. John the Baptist School

Position Overview

The Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in multiple grade levels. This part-time role supports the school’s mission by fostering a love of music, encouraging creativity, and integrating faith-based values into the learning environment. • Incorporate Catholic values and support the spiritual mission of the school through music selections, classroom culture, and participation in liturgical celebrations.
  • Prepare students for performances, such as Christmas programs, spring concerts, or school assemblies.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to plan music for school Masses or prayer services (if applicable).
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
  • Assess student progress through informal and formal methods and communicate effectively with families as needed.
  • Maintain classroom materials and instruments, ensuring a safe and organized learning space.
  • Participate in staff meetings or professional development as required for part-time faculty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Teaching license preferred but not always required for part-time roles.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or musical setting.
  • Ability to play piano or guitar is helpful, especially for liturgical music.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom-management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.

Work Schedule

  • Part-time, typically 2-3 days per week.

  • Additional hours may be required for concerts, Masses, or special events.

Mission Alignment

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about nurturing students’ musical abilities while supporting their spiritual and personal growth. A willingness to participate in the faith life of the school community is essential, though the teacher does not need to be Catholic unless your diocese requires it.
