Software Engineer

Job Description

The Company

Friedman Vartolo LLP is a fast-growing, New York-based law firm specializing in real estate and default services, with over 300 employees providing top-tier legal services to our clients in seven states. While our legal expertise sets us apart, it's our mindset that drives us forward. We bring a fresh, fast-paced energy that drives our momentum and shapes how we approach every challenge.

We are a company that chooses to dig deeper, solving problems at the root instead of settling for surface fixes. Here, there are no passengers because every individual adds value, owns outcomes, and moves the firm forward. With an underdog mentality, we embrace constant elevation, always sharpening, always climbing, and never coasting. When challenges come, we row together and lean in as one team to get the job done, no matter what.

The Position

We are seeking a pragmatic Software Engineer to maintain, improve, and scale internal applications supporting high-volume workflows. You will partner closely with the Lead Engineer to troubleshoot production issues, strengthen integrations, and deliver incremental enhancements that improve reliability and usability.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working within existing codebases-including AI-assisted and low-code systems-and brings strong debugging skills, attention to data integrity, and the ability to operate independently while collaborating on priorities and long-term system stability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Triage and resolve bugs, regressions, and edge cases across shipped apps in collaboration with the lead engineer
  • Write and execute QA test plans to validate app behavior before and after changes
  • Support integrations between internal applications and external systems (client portals, case management platforms, data pipelines)
  • Monitor application health and performance in production; proactively identify and address issues
  • Implement incremental feature enhancements and UI/UX improvements based on stakeholder feedback
  • Ensure data integrity across integrations, with particular attention to preventing unintended destructive writes or data loss
  • Document application architecture, known issues, and deployment procedures to support team continuity
  • Collaborate closely with the lead engineer on code reviews, sprint priorities, and technical debt reduction
  • Contribute to scaling existing applications as user volume and use case complexity grow
  • All other related duties as assigned to support departmental and firm needs

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of full stack development experience (React, Node.js, Python)
  • Comfortable working within existing codebases built using AI-assisted and no-code/low-code development approaches
  • Experience with REST API integrations and data pipeline maintenance
  • Strong debugging and root cause analysis skills in production environments
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering or LLM-powered application workflows a strong plus
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal hand-holding while escalating appropriately to the lead engineer
  • Strong written communication skills for documentation and async collaboration

Compensation

We offer a compensation package commensurate with experience, within the defined range of $55,000-75,000/annually.
