K-12 Virtual School Director

Job Description

Volt Online Schools is building a next-generation K-12 virtual public school model through partnerships with school districts, charter schools, public agencies, and existing online learning programs. Our team has experience building and operating successful virtual public school programs across multiple states. Volt combines licensed teachers, high-quality curriculum, student support systems, family communication, technology tools, enrichment opportunities, and a flexible online learning environment designed to help students succeed outside the traditional classroom.

Position Overview:

Volt is seeking a State Director to lead virtual school partnership and launch efforts in Tennessee. This person will help Volt identify and develop opportunities with school districts, charter schools, existing virtual programs, authorizers, education agencies, and community stakeholders. Depending on the state and opportunity, the path may involve launching a new virtual school program, partnering with an existing public school or district, supporting an existing online school, or helping transition an existing program to a stronger operating model.

What Success Looks Like

In the first 30 days, the State Director should build a ranked target list, secure serious conversations with public education decision-makers, and help Volt determine the fastest compliant pathway in the state. The strongest candidates will be able to both get the meeting and help turn the opportunity into a real school partnership.

Key Responsibilities

Identify and prioritize potential district, charter, virtual school, and public education partners. Build relationships with superintendents, school board members, charter boards, authorizers, virtual school leaders, and state education stakeholders. Help Volt evaluate launch, district partnership, charter partnership, operator transition, and school improvement opportunities. Lead outreach, meetings, follow-up, and partnership development. Help prepare proposals, board presentations, budgets, launch plans, staffing plans, and implementation timelines. Support due diligence on potential partner schools or districts, including enrollment, academics, compliance, staffing, finances, technology, contracts, and state requirements. Coordinate with Volt’s central team on academics, operations, enrollment, compliance, marketing, staffing, curriculum, and technology.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a respected K-12 education leader who knows Tennessee’s education landscape and can open doors with public school decision-makers. This person may be a former or current superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, charter school leader, virtual school director, district administrator, authorizer staff member, education consultant, or school management executive.

Required Qualifications

Experience in K-12 education leadership, district administration, charter schools, virtual learning, school operations, or education partnerships. Strong understanding of public school governance and decision-making. Existing relationships with district leaders, charter leaders, school board members, authorizers, or education organizations. Ability to communicate credibly with superintendents, boards, school leaders, parents, and public stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong project-management and organizational skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-moving, remote environment. High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment.

Why Join Volt

Help create new public virtual school options for students and families. Join an experienced team with a proven virtual school operating background. Lead a major state expansion initiative from the earliest stage. Work in a flexible, remote-first environment. Build relationships with public education leaders across the state. Opportunity for the role to expand into a long-term state leadership or school executive position after launch.
