INSTRUCTIONAL COACH

JOB SUMMARY
The Elementary MTSS Instructional Coach supports grades 4–6 in implementing MTSS for reading and math. This role strengthens Tier 1 instruction, improves Tier 2 interventions, and provides Tier 3 support while building staff capacity through coaching, data use, and professional learning. The coach partners with teachers and leaders to ensure equitable, research-based practices that improve student achievement and align with district goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must meet state of Michigan certification requirements to teach elementary education.
  • Masters in Curriculum and Instruction or Masters in Reading and/or Math is preferred
  • Experience Implementing Tier 1 and Tier 2 classroom instruction
  • Strong understanding of MTSS framework
  • Knowledge of research and evidence based instructional practices that actively engage elementary students
  • Familiarity with the Science of Reading, Essential Instructional Practices in Literacy and Mathematics, and elementary academic standards
  • Ability to analyze and interpret a variety of assessment data to guide instructional decisions
  • Strong skills to facilitate meetings, instructional rounds, and professional development sessions
  • Willingness and ability to assume a supportive leadership role
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with universal and diagnostic student screenings.
  • Maintain records of coaching, MTSS activities, and curriculum progress.
  • Provide progress and outcome reports to school leadership.
  • Communicate regularly with staff (e.g., newsletters and updates).
  • Manage time and scheduling to maximize teacher support and impact.
  • Assist with inventory of textbooks and instructional resources.
  • Coordinate Tier II and Tier III intervention schedules, staffing, and services to maximize instructional time and ensure consistent, data-driven implementation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

· Build positive, collaborative relationships with teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, and instructional assistants.

  • Provide individual and team coaching to strengthen Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observation, feedback, and reflective conferencing.
  • Provide Tier 3 instruction and support development of Individualized Reading Plans for identified students in grades 4–6.
  • Ensure district-approved reading and math programs are implemented with fidelity.
  • Use student data with staff to identify needs, barriers, and next steps for improvement.
  • Facilitate professional learning such as book studies, team trainings, in-class coaching, lesson planning, student work analysis, technology integration, and capacity-building in reading, writing, and math.
  • Maintain current knowledge of research, best practices, and required coaching professional development.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Minimum starting salary range: $46,945-$81,638
  • 185 annual work days
  • Salary schedule placement is determined by degree level and teaching experience. Teachers with previous teaching experience will receive one-half step on the salary schedule for each year of experience up to a maximum of Step 12.
  • We offer a competitive benefit package, a $1500 new hire bonus, $2000 toward the cost of graduate credits, and half of the tuition cost for up to 18 graduate credits in a content area taught in our Early College Program.
