Hourly Rate: $16.00

Hours per Week: 10-19

SUMMARY OF POSITION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for assisting peers with disabilities and/or medical conditions as they acclimate, navigate, and experience college life at Bismarck State College (BSC). Promote the development of self-reliance, self-determination, and self-advocacy skills. Activities may include in-class academic support, homework and study sessions, social events, recreational opportunities, weekly planning, and/or volunteer service-learning activities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintain scheduled hours.
  • Assist peers to help foster a successful transition to the college environment.
  • Plan and enjoy activities with peers. Activities will vary based on the needs of the peer.
  • Attend mentor training and meetings.
  • Complete Peer Mentor Feedback Forms after scheduled activities with a student peer.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current student at BSC
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to participate in BSC campus events and community events
  • Academic and study skills if assigned to assist a peer with in-class or academic supports
  • Criminal history record check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Experience working with people who have diverse needs
  • Experience serving as a peer mentor in an academic setting
