Job Title: Home Based Special Education Teacher

Reports To: Executive Director, Principal

Supervises: Paraprofessional Staff

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

  • 6–10 hours per week; schedule to be coordinated with family and district
  • Hourly rate based on district guidelines/experience
  • Position is temporary/ongoing based on student need

START DATE: Immediate

Job Title: Home-Based Teacher (Part-Time, 6–10 hours/week)

Position Summary: The Home-Based Teacher provides individualized academic instruction to a student in the home setting. This role focuses on maintaining continuity of learning, supporting IEP goals and coordinating with school staff and families to ensure access to appropriate educational services outside of the traditional classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction in core academic areas based on district curriculum and student needs.
  • Implement and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and accommodations
  • Develop and adapt lesson plans to meet the student’s instructional level and learning style
  • Maintain accurate records of instructional time, progress monitoring, and student performance
  • Communicate regularly with case managers, teachers, and families regarding student

  • Ensure a structured, safe, and productive learning environment in the home
  • Professional demeanor and appearance with a positive attitude.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and resourceful in the completion of work assignments.
  • Sense of accountability and ownership for work results.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge of the following computer applications: MacBook equipment.
  • Ability to maintain status of “not disqualified” upon completion of criminal background
  • Utilize behavior strategies and supports as needed to promote engagement and learning
  • Participate in team meetings (IEP meetings, check-ins) as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license (appropriate to grade level/content area)
  • Experience working with students in individualized or special education settings preferred
  • Strong ability to work independently and problem-solve in a home-based environment
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in a home setting

Working Conditions:

  • Instruction provided in the student’s home or agreed-upon community setting
  • Requires travel to the student’s location

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Current Minnesota licensure in the area of assignment in Special Education (DCD/moderate to severe or ASD/moderate to severe)
  • Excellent oral, written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with internal staff, students and parents.
  • Detail oriented and flexible
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or move quickly to contain a student.
