At-Large Board Member (VOLUNTEER)

Job Description

Job Overview
Join a dynamic and impactful organization as a Volunteer At-Large Board of Directors Member! In this vital leadership role, you will contribute your expertise to guide the strategic direction, governance, and sustainable growth of a growing organization.

About Guided Path Terminal Cancer Support, Inc. (Guided Path)

Guided Path exists to help people navigate some of the most complex and overwhelming

moments of their lives. We provide non-clinical support for individuals and families facing cancer (especially those diagnosed with appendix cancer and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei [PMP]). We support those facing the rare and often misunderstood diseases that require specialized care, travel, and difficult decision-making.

Our work helps patients:

  • Access experienced specialists
  • Understand complex treatment options
  • Navigate the practical and financial challenges that come with care

At the heart of it, we help people move forward—with clarity and support.

The Role (a.k.a. More Than “Just a Board Member”)

As an At-Large Board Member, you’re not here to fill a seat—you’re here to help shape the

direction and impact of the organization. You bring your perspective, your experience, and your voice to the table. Sometimes that means asking a thoughtful question. Sometimes it means making a connection. Sometimes it’s simply showing up and being engaged.

This role is about helping Guided Path grow in a way that truly serves the patients and families who rely on us.

What You’ll Actually Do

Show Up & Engage

  • Attend board meetings and participate in real conversations (not just listen in)
  • Review materials ahead of time so discussions are meaningful
  • Ask questions, share ideas, and contribute your perspective

Help Guide the Direction

  • Offer insight based on your background and experience
  • Help us think through growth, opportunities, and challenges
  • Support our expanding focus on appendix cancer and PMP

Be Part of Something Bigger

  • Join a committee that aligns with your interests
  • Help move key initiatives forward
  • Collaborate with other board members and leadership

Share the Mission

  • Talk about Guided Path in your networks
  • Help raise awareness about the challenges of rare cancers
  • Open doors for partnerships, connections, or opportunities

Support Sustainability

  • Make a personal financial contribution at a level that’s meaningful to you, as you are able
  • Support fundraising efforts in ways that feel natural (introductions, ideas, participation)

Who This Role Is Great For

Someone who:

Cares about making a real impact in people’s lives

  • Brings a thoughtful perspective and isn’t afraid to share it
  • Enjoys collaboration and working with others toward a common goal
  • Wants to be part of something meaningful without it becoming overwhelming

Bonus Points (Not Required)

  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit work, business, fundraising, or communications
  • Previous board or advisory experience
  • Personal or caregiver experience with cancer (valued, but not required)

Time Commitment

About 3–6 hours per month, including:

  • Board meetings
  • Committee involvement
  • Occasional outreach or events

NOTE: This role can be local or remote, we do not expect board members to travel long distances for outreach events unless they have personal interest in doing so.

Why This Role Matters

Appendix cancer and PMP are rare, complex diseases. Patients often:

  • Travel long distances for care
  • Face difficult, unfamiliar decisions
  • Navigate systems that aren’t built for rare conditions

Guided Path exists to help fill those gaps.

As a board member, you help ensure that support continues to grow, reach more people, and

remain grounded in what patients actually need.

What You Get

  • The opportunity to be part of meaningful, mission-driven work
  • A collaborative and thoughtful board environment
  • The ability to contribute your skills in a way that truly matters
  • A team that takes the work seriously—but not itself too seriously
