Campus, School of Medicine is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Entry Level Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional (RSP).
The
main emphasis of this position will be working on is the role of signaling pathways and the development of new therapeutic strategies for
thyroid cancer in Dr. Rebecca Schweppe's lab. These studies will utilize molecular biology and cell-based approaches, including Western
blotting, growth assays, gene expression analysis, molecular cloning, cell culture, 3D culture, and microscopy. The lab also uses mouse
models to study thyroid cancer progression and response to therapy. To further translate our findings to the clinic, the lab utilizes tissue
samples from thyroid cancer patients. The candidate is encouraged to take on an independent project with the guidance of Dr. Schweppe,
including designing experiments, optimizing protocols, and analyzing data. We encourage recent college graduates who are seeking additional
research experience before applying to graduate school to apply to this position.
Key
Responsibilities:- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) and/or other lab members in the design and execution
of experiments.
- Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research project, including:
- Cell culture and sterile
technique.
- Molecular biology approaches.
- Cell based approaches.
- Microscopy approaches.
- Animal
handling, care, and monitoring.
- Perform analyses of generated data and prepare/maintain an electronic laboratory
notebook.
- Prepare regular summaries of progress for discussion with the PI, and for formal or informal presentation to research
working groups.
- Assist new lab members.
- Laboratory management including ordering supplies, maintaining an inventory of stock
consumables/reagents, safety, cleanliness, and equipment maintenance.
Work
Location:Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in biology,
molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional
experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum
qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's degree in biology,
molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
- Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet
laboratory.
- Previous experience with fluorescence and confocal microscopy.
- Previous experience with any of the following
research techniques:
- Protein, DNA, and RNA isolation, DNA and protein electrophoresis, PCR, quantitative PCR, immunoblotting, kinase
profiling, cell and tissue culture, lentiviral transduction, flow cytometry, animal handling, handling patient specimens.
- One (1) to
two (2) years of experience in a laboratory setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities:- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques, including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to
communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and master
complex research protocol information.
- Proficiency with Office suite programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of
biochemistry.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze, organize, interpret, and present data.

Anticipated Pay Range:The starting
salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
$47,811 - $60,816.
The above salary range
(or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of
posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
