Controller

We are looking for a Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function, bring clarity,

consistency, and experienced judgment to our financial foundation, and help build one

integrated finance department out of two legacy organizations. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will own the general ledger, manage the close process, oversee compliance reporting, and provide direct coaching and mentorship to a team with strong institutional knowledge that is ready for experienced financial leadership.

This role is for someone who wants to build, not just maintain. You will be stepping into real

complexity (multi-state operations, active grants, an active merger, two billing platforms) with the opportunity to define how the finance function operates going forward as we bring systems, processes, and teams into alignment. You will be joining a team with strong institutional knowledge and active momentum. Much of the foundational work is underway; this role brings the experience and judgment to solidify it and carry it forward. The right person brings credentialed expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to develop the people around them.

What You’ll Own

• Ownership of the general ledger, monthly close process, and account reconciliations across two sets of books
• Audit preparation and coordination (financial audits, grant audits, regulatory filings), including support for ongoing grant reimbursement processes
• Financial statement preparation and accuracy
• Internal controls: establishing and enforcing proper access, oversight, and segregation of duties
• Compliance reporting (FCC, NECA, PUC, SBA, and grant-related filings)
• Team leadership: direct management, coaching, and development of the accounting staff across multiple locations
• Integration of two legacy accounting functions into a single, unified process
• Evaluation and improvement of accounting systems and workflows to support a growing multi-entity operation.
• Partnering with senior leadership on budgeting, cash flow visibility, and financial planning

What We’re Looking For

Required

• CPA designation
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
• Strong general ledger, close process, and financial statement preparation experience
• Experience establishing or strengthening internal controls
• Audit coordination experience (financial, compliance, or grant-related)
• Based in or willing to relocate to Scottsbluff/Gering, NE or Casper, WY. This is an in-

person role.

Preferred

• CMA, MBA, or Master’s in Accounting
• Experience with multi-entity or multi-location accounting
• Familiarity with grant accounting, deferred revenue, and reimbursement-based funding
• Experience with QuickBooks Online, MACC, or similar platforms in a growing organization
• Telecom or ISP industry experience is a plus but not required

Compensation

Salary Range $95,000 – $135,000, depending on credentials, experience,

and demonstrated capability
