The Director of Mechanical – RRO will direct, plan, and supervise the day-to-day and long-range maintenance, planning, capital program execution, and regulatory compliance of commuter rail and supporting facilities operated for the provision of service. This multi-disciplinary senior management role encompasses Mechanical Operations, Capital and Operating project management, Force Account management, Contract Compliance, Engineering, Design and Construction oversight, environmental compliance, municipal coordination, and enforcement of MBTA safety policies and procedures.
The Director will supervise a small professional staff and oversee multiple Mechanical Contractors, Construction Contractors, consultant groups, vendors, suppliers, and Force Account personnel to ensure contractor compliance with contract requirements and regulatory standards. The position is strongly focused on the daily delivery of safe and reliable service, continuous improvement of the Commuter Rail fleet, and the advancement of passenger equipment and facility State of Good Repair (SGR) initiatives, including locomotive and coach overhauls, restorations, and new vehicle procurements.
This position focuses on mechanical services and operations, including revenue and non-revenue rolling stock, and associated maintenance facilities that support existing and projected Railroad Operations service demands.
