Job Title: Summer Connections Part-Time Assistant Teacher

Steps to Success (Steps) is hiring an Assistant Teacher for its Summer Connections youth internship program in Brookline, MA.

We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized leader who will make an excellent role model for young people and will help support a hands-on, fun, and structured learning environment.

The Summer Connections class, taking place in the afternoon at one of the Brookline High School locations, is a complement to separate internships or classes that participating students take part in during the morning. During the class, a maximum of 32 students separated into 3 classrooms will engage in a digital media service-learning curriculum developed by our partner organization Brookline Interactive Group.

The Summer Connections Assistant Teacher is a part-time position (10 hours/week, plus 2 hours per week of meeting and planning time). Will need to be available for the training session (4 hours total) on Monday June 29th, 2026, and then during the program, which runs Monday July 6th, 2026 - Thursday July 30th, 2026, from 1:00– 3:00 pm (Mondays-Thursdays only).

Program Outcomes:

  • As a result of gaining initial exposure to professional environments and processes, students will strengthen their relationships with adults (e.g. co-workers)
  • Students will demonstrate mastery of basic digital media and technology skills
  • Students will demonstrate perseverance, by articulating and tracking a goal for themselves beyond high school

Duties

  • Work as a team with lead SC Teachers and Steps to Success Director of Elementary and Middle school Programs to learn and implement a class curriculum that will help students meet desired program outcomes.
  • Develop positive relationships with and among students, and support lead SC Teachers in establishing a clear sense of structure, and a fun, respectful learning atmosphere.
  • Assist in routines and administrative duties as needed.
  • Attend a (4-hour) training on Monday June 29th, 2026, and weekly meetings while the program is running.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with young people in a school, camp, after-school, or residential setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development. Ability to work with a diverse population and with students of varying levels of academic skill and engagement
  • Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an out-of-school setting are essential. Experience with students in the middle school age range is important.

Additional Information:

  • 10 hrs/week during the summer program (Mondays-Thursdays 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, plus 2 hours paid planning time each week).
  • The hourly rate is $28/hour
  • Additional paid hours for in-person training/orientation on Monday June 29th, 2026 | 11 AM - 3PM
  • Supervised by Steps Director of Elementary and Middle school Programs
