Title: Summer Camp cook

Reports to: Veggie Rx Program Manager

Role Summary: The summer camp cook will provide nutritious meals (breakfast and lunch) daily for 20 DICP Health Rangers campers. They support the Health Rangers (and the Veggie Rx program) by not only preparing and cooking food, but also at times incorporating campers in the process. We see the person in this role as a co-creator of the camp menu, as an instructor in the kitchen (as needed), and as a caretaker of the youth that take part in the Health Rangers camp.

Essential Functions

  • Providing breakfast, lunch, and snacks for 20 youth, Monday-Thursday
  • Cooking hot meals, preparing cold food and snacks, serving campers
  • Supporting camp director with menu design and recipe creation
  • Purchasing food and other needed items for camp meals
  • Daily kitchen clean-up, as well as adhering all practices to public health codes
  • Assisting camp staff in teaching campers about healthy food, and basic cooking skills

Hours:

  • Part-time seasonal position from June 1 to August 14
  • Daily hours have flexibility, but breakfast needs to be ready by 8:30.
  • No camp on Fridays, so time can be used for menu planning, food purchasing, meal prep, etc.
  • Weekly range of hours is between 30-40, based on program needs

Competencies

  • Skills: Food safety management control, time management, self-driven, organized
  • Languages: Bilingualism (Spanish) is desirable

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assisting camp director and program director in oversight of summer interns

Work Environment

Kitchen will be the primary location for this position. Other locations in the DICP building will be used at times, specifically camp classrooms

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Clear background check (required)
  • Basic cooking experience
