PRN Phlebotomy Technician I - Inpatient Phlebotomy
Details
Basic Function: Performs phlebotomy/specimen collection, and a variety of laboratory tasks related to phlebotomy: labeling specimens, telephone inquiries, and distribution of phlebotomy supplies.
Tasks:
Performs phlebotomy draws
- Identifies patient per departmental and hospital SOPs
- Procure/collect specimen using fingerstick and/or various phlebotomy techniques, including vacutainer, syringe and butterfly
- Refers questions requiring additional knowledge to supervisor
- Completes redraws
Performs computer data entry and other clerical tasks as required
- Completes phlebotomy related data entry tasks
Orders, receives and distributes supplies
- Receives phlebotomy procurement equipment and/or supplies
- Inventories and stocks supplies as needed
- Notifies materials management before shortages occur
- Maintains phlebotomy tray with appropriate supplies
Responds to basic phlebotomy inquiries and otherwise represents assigned and related work areas
Required/Desired Qualifications:
- High school graduation or equivalent is required
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program or previous phlebotomy experience is desirable
- Minimum 6 months previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable
- Basic computer skills are desirable
- Previous experience with Personal Protective Equipment is desirable
- Previous patient contact experience is desirable
Schedule: 24 hours in a 4-week schedule, morning or night shifts, flexible start times and shift lengths
