Engineering Technician (Levels 1, 2, and 3) - Weather Station and Airport Equipment Installation Specialist

Location: Alaska-based with 70% travel throughout the state (remote airports, vertiports, roadways, and federal/commercial sites)
Reports to: Field Operations Manager
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Project Context: This position directly supports the development of MWOS sales development plans and the expansion of regional networks, campaigns, and strategies by delivering high-quality, on-time installations of Montis Weather Observation Systems (MWOS) and other commercial Weather Observation Platforms and equipment. These deployments help build Alaskas statewide weather observational network, enhance situational awareness for aviation and commercial stakeholders, and drive adoption across federal and commercial entities.
Montis Corporation is seeking motivated Engineering Technicians Levels 1, 2, and 3 to install, commission, and support our advanced systems throughout the state of Alaska.
Position Summary You will travel extensively (approximately 70% of the time) across Alaska to install, test, and maintain equipment and systems at commercial airports, federal agencies, remote airstrips, and roadway locations. Work includes mounting equipment, sensor integration, cabling, network configuration, system commissioning, and basic troubleshooting. All roles align with federal labor category standards (SCA 30081-30083 or equivalent Engineering Technician series) to support commercial, state, and government contracts.
Key Responsibilities (Common to All Levels)
- Site preparations to include foundations, power line installations, and platform construction.
- Perform system integration, power/wiring connections, and initial network setup, and ensure system is transmitting properly.
- Conduct functional testing, calibration, and quality assurance to ensure compliance with Montis Standards and performance guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation issues in remote, harsh Alaskan environments.
- Maintain detailed installation logs, as-built documentation, and client handoff records to support sales and network expansion reporting.
- Collaborate with engineering and stakeholders to align deployments with regional network development campaigns.
- Adhere to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and federal contract compliance standards.
- Travel 70% within Alaska (including remote sites accessible by small aircraft, boat, or vehicle).
Level-Specific Duties and Qualifications (Aligned with Federal LCAT Standards)
Engineering Technician Level 1 (Entry/Junior)
- Focus: Performs routine, standardized installation tasks under direct supervision.
- Typical Experience: 0-2 years in electronics, field installation, or technical support.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred).
- Duties: Assist with basic mounting, cabling, and testing; follow detailed checklists; support higher-level technicians on complex sites.
- Ideal for candidates building foundational skills to contribute to MWOS regional network rollout.
Engineering Technician Level 2 (Intermediate)
- Focus: Performs moderately complex installations with limited supervision; adapts standard procedures to site-specific conditions.
- Typical Experience: 3-5 years in electronics, instrumentation, or field service (aviation/weather systems a plus).
- Education: High school diploma + technical certification or associate degree in electronics, avionics, or related field.
- Duties: Independently handle full system installations; perform basic network configuration; train Level 1 technicians; contribute to post-installation optimization reports that inform sales development strategies.
Engineering Technician Level 3 (Senior/Advanced)
- Focus: Performs non-standard, complex assignments; selects or adapts methods to resolve installation challenges; may lead small teams or site projects.
- Typical Experience: 6+ years in field engineering, instrumentation installation, or weather/avionics systems.
- Education: Associate or bachelors degree in electronics, engineering technology, or related field (preferred); relevant certifications required.
- Duties: Lead complex deployments; troubleshoot advanced issues (networking, sensor integration, environmental hardening); provide technical input for regional network planning and campaign execution; mentor Levels 1-2; support federal compliance audits.
Required Skills and Attributes (All Levels)
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems, cabling, sensors, cameras, or networking equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and remote locations.
- Valid drivers license; ability to obtain required transportation/security clearances for federal sites.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and customer-service orientation.
- Proficiency with hand/power tools, multimeters, and basic diagnostic software.
- Willingness to fly on small aircraft and work flexible hours to meet deployment schedules.
- U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S.; ability to pass background checks for federal contracts.
- Alaska residency or willingness to relocate preferred.
Physical Demands:Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders/towers, work at heights, and operate in remote Alaskan conditions (cold, wind, limited facilities).
