Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is recruiting to fill a Psychiatric Care Supervisor position. This position will primarily work between 3:00pm and 11:30pm.

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system.

Position Summary


As a Psychiatric Care Supervisor at MMHI, you will collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor and interdisciplinary team on the development of the treatment learning program and plan. You will also:

  • Identify security issues and assist with planning interventions that are congruent with the treatment needs identified in the treatment learning plan.
  • Supervise assigned Psychiatric Care Technicians, including provision of orientation, training, performance evaluation, and discipline as appropriate.
  • Interpret policies, procedures, unit programs as needed and provide direction to staff regarding unit and security operations.
  • Conduct investigations and complete reports as indicated.

Salary Information


The starting pay is between $46.74 and $50.35 per hour ($97,200 and $104,700 per year). A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. The pay schedule/range is 81/33.

Job Details


All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

This position requires the ability to perform, with good body mechanics, a sequence of motor activities including, squatting, kneeling, rushing, pushing, pivoting, running, and lifting both with and without 35 lb. weight.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have both of the following:

  • Experience providing psychiatric care and/or security to inmates/patients with behavior disorders, mental illness or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role performing duties such as evaluating and training staff, coaching, hiring or discipline, scheduling assignments, ensuring policies are being followed, etc.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or both of the following:

  • Experience working with youth with behavior disorders and mental illness.
  • Experience participating on an interdisciplinary team and treatment planning for inmates/patients.
