The Lead Preschool Teacher at Good Shepherd Catholic School is responsible for creating a loving, Christ-centered classroom that nurtures the spiritual, academic, social-emotional, and physical development of young children. This educator will model Christian values, foster a play-based learning environment, and partner with families to support each child’s growth in alignment with the mission of Catholic education.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instruction
- Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that promote early literacy, math, science, art, and motor skills.
- Support learning through structured play, hands-on exploration, music, movement, and storytelling.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and developmental stages.
Classroom Management & Environment
- Create a safe, nurturing, and orderly classroom environment where three-year-olds feel secure and eager to learn.
- Establish clear routines and expectations that promote positive behavior and independence.
- Supervise children closely at all times, including during transitions, recess, and restroom breaks.
Assessment & Communication
- Observe, document, and assess student progress in all developmental areas using informal and formal tools.
- Maintain open, positive communication with parents through daily updates, newsletters, and conferences.
- Collaborate with assistants, administrators, and support staff to address student needs and learning goals.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and complete required trainings (e.g., Safe Environment, early childhood).
- Participate actively in staff meetings, school-wide faith activities, and professional development.
- Uphold the mission of Good Shepherd Catholic School and the Diocese of Lexington in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (required)
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with preschool-aged children in a classroom or faith-based setting (preferred)
- Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
- Commitment to fostering a joyful, Christ-centered learning environment
