PROJECT ACCOUNTANT - ENGINEERING CONSULTING FIRM – HYBRID/ONSITE
THE RIGHT STAFF has partnered with a leader in the engineering industry in their search for a Project Accountant to join their accounting team on a full-time basis.
This role will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of client projects, from proposal through completion. Ideal candidates will have a deep understanding of project billing, invoicing, revenue recognition, and U.S. sales tax laws.
Essential Job Duties:
- Partner closely with project managers to oversee the financial management of projects from start to finish
- Ensure all project-related documents, including proposals, purchase orders, and setup forms, are accurate and properly recorded.
- Set up and manage client projects within our project accounting system, ensuring precise billing and reporting.
- Understand and apply different billing methodologies such as cost-plus, lump-sum, and cost-plus-to-a-maximum, ensuring the correct presentation of invoices.
- Prepare, review, and submit invoices to clients promptly and with precision.
- Review and approve vendor purchase orders and invoices related to each project.
- Conduct regular project audits to validate cost-to-complete calculations, evaluate over/under work-in-progress (WIP), and address project variances.
- Handle multi-company project postings, ensuring revenue and expenses are allocated correctly.
- Manage project-related accounts receivable, track payments, and resolve any discrepancies in cash receipts.
- Apply U.S. sales tax regulations to professional services and material sales for projects.
- Ensure successful project closeout by resolving commitments and finalizing billing.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field is highly preferred.
- At least 3+ years of experience in project accounting, including expertise in billing, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition is required.
- Experience in multi-company and multi-state sales tax is required.
- Microsoft Office Suite knowledge and Excel Proficiency required
Position Benefits, Pay, & Schedule:
- Pay starts at $65k annually and depends heavily on experience.
- Hybrid/onsite work schedule.
- Schedule is Monday to Friday – 8 am to 5 pm with some flexibility.
