Job Purpose:

The Area Coordinator for the Office of Residence Life & Housing isresponsible for fostering a vibrant, student-centered residential community by providing leadership, mentorship, and support to studentsliving within the Scranton community. This position plays a key role in creating an inclusive and welcoming environment. Reporting to anAssistant Director of Residence Life & Housing, the Area Coordinator oversees the day-to-day management of residential communities,including student support, staff supervision, and crisis response. In collaboration with campus partners, this role assists with housingassignments, facilities coordination, and administrative processes to enhance the student experience. The Area Coordinator supports theUniversity's Jesuit mission by cultivating a sense of belonging, promoting student success, and fostering an environment that encouragespersonal growth and a strong sense of community.

This position requires the staff member to live on campus in anapartment provided by the University.

This is a fixed term one (1) year appointment, with the possibility ofrenewal based on performance and institutional needs. This position is scheduled to begin in June 2026.

EssentialDuties:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for assigned residential areas, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learningenvironment
  • Supervise and mentor a Resident Assistant staff, including one Head Resident Assistant, providingongoing support, training, and feedback regarding their roles as student leaders
  • Create, implement and supportactivities/events that permit students to achieve identified learning outcomes for assigned community. Facilitate interventions withstudents to support their academic, social, and personal development, including facilitating conflict resolution and mediations as needed
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation to address campus-based emergencies, providing immediate support forstudent to ensure safety in the community
  • Assist the Office of Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution by supportingstudent-facing processes related to behavioral concerns, conflict resolution, educational presentations, and/or formal hearingparticipation.
  • Oversee a programming budget ensuring appropriate fiscal management, approving expenditures, andreconciling monthly statements
  • Participate in department wide initiatives including but not limited to opening andclosing of residence halls, annual assessment of student learning, room assignments, selection of student staff, off campus educationalprocess, off campus student support, and student staff training
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with students,staff, and campus partners to build trust, promote collaboration, and enhance the overall residential experience
  • Educate students about University and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Communicate withstudents, parents, and other campus departments in a timely and effective manner in person, by phone, and via e-mail

  • Ability to handle sensitive situations in a caring and professional manner
  • Ability to work with various constituencies such as students, faculty, staff, and parents/family support is essential
  • Ability to motivate students both individually and collectively
  • Ability to managemultiple projects simultaneously while effectively prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines
  • Evening and weekend workis essential for the realization of the goals and objectives of the department
  • The ability to uphold human dignityand respect by recognizing each persons worth, valuing diverse perspectives, and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy
  • Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the Universitys Catholic and Jesuit mission

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelors Degree is required.

PreferredEducation:

Masters Degree in Student Affairs Administration or a related field is preferred.

Minimum JobExperience Requirements:

Two (2) years of previous residence life experience is required. Preference will be given tograduates from the Class of 2025 and 2026 with experience as a Resident Assistant/Head Resident Assistant at The University of Scranton.
