Location: Madison Heights, Michigan, USA / office‑based, with extensive travel across Ontario, Canada and the United States. This position may be based at one of the following CMF Group Inc. locations. Outside of Madison Heights, this includes Windsor, ON or Corunna, ON. Only one position is available. The successful candidate will be assigned a primary office location at the time of hire.

About the Role

CMF Group is seeking a Corporate Director of Health & Safety to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the company's health, safety, and risk management programs. This Michigan-based senior leadership role is responsible for driving safety performance across U.S. and Canadian operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing workplace risk, supporting insurance and claims management outcomes, and strengthening a proactive safety culture aligned with CMF Group's operational and growth objectives.

This position is classified as a bona fide executive and management role under applicable Michigan and federal wage and hour laws.

Work Schedule

· This is a salaried management position with hours of work aligned to operational and executive requirements.

· Work hours may fluctuate based on business needs, travel, incident response, and project support.

· This position meets the executive and administrative exemption criteria under the Workforce Opportunity Wage Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

· Scheduling flexibility is provided in recognition of the role's responsibilities.

  • Primarily based at the Madison Heights Branch.
  • Occasional work at other CMF Group locations and job sites may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Strategy & Performance

· Develop and lead CMF Group's enterprise health & safety strategy across Canada and the U.S.

· Establish measurable safety performance targets (TRIR, LTIR, EMR, WSIB performance, leading indicators).

· Analyze safety data and trends; implement corrective and preventative strategies.

· Ensure safety standards support client prequalification and contractual requirements.

Safety Culture & Leadership

· Champion a strong, proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization.

· Establish executive, branch, and project‑level accountability for safety outcomes.

· Lead initiatives focused on hazard recognition, incident prevention, and behavioural safety.

Leadership & Organizational Development

· Lead and support regional Health & Safety leaders and professionals.

· Develop staffing models aligned with project volume and operational risk.

· Support professional development, coaching, and succession planning.

Claims, Insurance & Risk Management

· Oversee workplace injury claims management in Ontario, other provinces, and U.S. jurisdictions.

· Partner with HR, insurers, and third‑party administrators on claims, return‑to‑work, and cost‑control initiatives.

· Monitor WSIB experience ratings and EMR performance.

Regulatory Compliance

· Ensure compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, including OHSA (Ontario), WSIB requirements, OSHA, and related regulations.

· Lead response to inspections, audits, investigations, and critical incidents.

· Maintain and update corporate health and safety policies and programs.

Major Projects & Client Interface

· Provide safety leadership during the pursuit, mobilization, and execution of major projects.

· Review contractual safety obligations, including OCIP/CCIP programs.

· Represent CMF Group during client audits, prequalification reviews, and executive meetings.

Systems, Reporting & Technology

· Oversee digital safety management systems and reporting tools.

· Deliver regular safety performance summaries to executive leadership.

· Promote data‑driven decision‑making and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Expectations

· Senior leadership experience in occupational health & safety within construction, industrial, or heavy‑industry environments.

· In-depth knowledge of U.S. OSHA regulations and applicable federal and state safety legislation; familiarity with Canadian safety legislation (including Ontario OHSA and WSIB) is considered an asset.

· Demonstrated success leading multi‑site or multi‑jurisdiction safety programs.

· Strong leadership, communication, and executive‑level advisory skills.

· Ability to travel extensively and meet site access and safety requirements.

· Valid driver's licence and eligibility for cross‑border travel.
