Library Programming Specialist

Job Description

Do you enjoy forging partnerships, providing guidance, and developing programs? Are you passionate about enhancing the role libraries play in their communities? North Dakota State Library is hiring a Library Programming Specialist to support and strengthen library services across North Dakota through statewide programming support, outreach, consultation, and professional development.

What You'll Do

This position will work collaboratively with a variety of library types to develop impactful programs and services that meet community needs, including a focus on unserved and underserved populations. You will serve as a resource for libraries statewide, foster partnerships, and help to deliver engaging library programming. You will support the mission of the North Dakota State Library by:

  • Providing guidance and consultation to public libraries on program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Developing programming resources, toolkits, and guides for staff in all library types
  • Assist libraries in implementing evidence-based programming aligned with community needs and statewide goals
  • Provide guidance on library services
  • Assist library staff with developing plans, policies, and procedures
  • Identify and assist in developing grant opportunities for academic, special, and tribal libraries
  • Design and deliver high-quality, engaging programs as a guest presenter in libraries across the state
  • Actively seek and create partnerships within unserved and underserved communities to provide information on library services
  • Work within unserved/underserved communities to develop and/or conduct literacy programming
  • Advise library leadership and staff on the needs of unserved/underserved communities

What You Will Bring (Minimum Qualifications)

We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude, the ability to build relationships, and a passion for serving a variety of communities.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  • A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS); OR
  • Current enrollment in an MLIS program; OR
  • An equivalent master's degree with a focus or specialization in Library Media Studies

In addition, candidates must have two years of professional library experience.

Compensation & Location

  • Work Style: Hybrid; can telecommute up to two days per week
  • Shift: Monday - Friday, flexible scheduling available between the hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm
  • Travel: This position will require occasional travel throughout the state of North Dakota
  • Hiring Salary: $5,083/month
