Director of Clinical Operations

Job Description

Clinical Operations Director

About Attune

Attune is a California-based telehealth mental health company on a mission to make high-quality, evidence-based therapy accessible. We combine compassionate clinical care with thoughtfully designed technology to support both the clients we serve and the clinicians who serve them.

At Attune, clinical excellence, operational rigor, and thoughtful technology go hand in hand. We believe you can’t improve the mental health ecosystem without great clinical infrastructure built with and by clinicians underneath it. We’re a small, early-stage team moving fast, and we’re looking for people who want to help build something meaningful from the ground up.

The Role

Attune is seeking a California Licensed Clinical Operations Director to join our founding team. This is a pivotal hire: as we scale, we need a clinical leader who can own the operational backbone of our clinical program - from hiring and supervising clinicians, to tracking outcomes, to helping us grow into new markets and insurance networks.

This is not a purely clinical role. The ideal candidate is a clinician who has grown beyond direct practice and is drawn to the operational, strategic, and organizational challenges of building and scaling a clinical program. You’ll work closely with our CEO, bring rigor to our day-to-day clinical operations, and have deep influence over the direction of the company.

If you’re excited by the intersection of clinical excellence and startup building and looking for deep ownership to drive positive change, this could be the right role for you.

Your ResponsibilitiesClinical Operations (70%)

  • Own the day-to-day clinical operations of Attune’s telehealth platform, ensuring consistent quality of care across our clinician network
  • Lead clinician hiring end-to-end: sourcing, screening, credentialing, and onboarding licensed associates and supervisors
  • Manage and develop our clinical supervision program, ensuring BBS compliance and supporting associate professional growth
  • Build and maintain systems for tracking patient and clinical outcomes, using data to drive continuous quality improvement
  • Ensure compliance with California law, HIPAA, and relevant telehealth regulations
  • Hold and manage the Professional Corporation (PC) structure, ensuring appropriate oversight and compliance
  • Handle HR-adjacent items related to clinical staff as the team grows

Business Development & Growth (15%)

  • Support market and insurance expansion efforts - serve as the clinical voice in payor conversations and market entry decisions
  • Assist with community engagement and BD outreach, leaning on personal and professional networks
  • Partner with the CEO on KPIs, payout structures, and growth planning from a clinical operations lens
  • Contribute to GTM strategy as a key voice on clinical feasibility, quality standards, and scalability

Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration (15%)

  • Work closely with our clinical product team to ensure operational realities inform product direction
  • Provide real-world input on platform features, clinical workflows, and tools that affect clinician and client experience
  • Participate in clinical team meetings, peer consultation, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted California license (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PhD, PsyD) in good standing
  • Ability to supervise ACSW, AMFT, and APCC associates per CA BBS requirements
  • Minimum 3+ years post-licensure experience, with at least 1–2 years in a clinical operations, program management, or clinical leadership role beyond direct practice
  • Strong working knowledge of California law and ethics governing mental health practice and supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage clinical programs: hiring pipelines, supervision infrastructure, outcomes tracking
  • Genuine enthusiasm for clinical training, mentorship, and the intersection of technology and mental health care
  • Demonstrated ability to give clear, developmentally appropriate feedback to supervisees
  • Experience in a startup, early-stage company, or fast-moving environment, or desire to work in one
  • Comfort with technology platforms and digital clinical tools; experience with EHR systems a plus
  • Strong business acumen: comfortable with KPIs, operational planning, and some experience with payor/insurance conversations
  • Experience providing telehealth services
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills - able to move fluidly between clinical and strategic conversations
  • High autonomy and ownership mindset; thrives in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

Nice to Have

  • Active supervisor certification, training in supervision best practices, or experience supervising ACSWs, AMFTs, or APCCs
  • Experience with insurance credentialing, network development, or market expansion in behavioral health
  • Experience in business development, community engagement, or clinical partnership development
  • Prior experience at a telehealth or digital health company
  • Familiarity with clinical outcome measurement tools

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary: $120K–$140K, commensurate with experience
  • Meaningful (founding team) equity in the company
  • 100% remote / telehealth environment
  • Health benefits
  • Paid licensure renewal and continuing education support
  • Direct line to leadership and genuine influence over company direction
  • A mission-driven, collaborative team that takes clinical excellence as seriously as it takes product
